I was checking out their site, and the place looks impressive. The lodging there is a lot nicer than Harlan. Windrock is a lot closer to I75. Looks like an easier drive than Harlan.

The drive to Windrock is 280 miles, 4.17 hours, and 23 miles off I75.
The drive to Harlan is 262 miles, 4.15 hours, and 75 miles off I75.

I can't remember Harlan costs, is $17 per person fairly close?

I see cabins with showers... as well as a bathhouses. Never mind on the cost.

Can't wait to hear the report on the trails.

Primitive at Harlan was $15 a night per tent with use of the shower house. Windrock definitely has a nice setup for lodging.

Everyone I know that has been there says it's great. Everything from mild to wild. The big difference are the obstacles. Instead of them being short like Harlan, these are much longer obstacles. Should be a good time.

Windrock is awesome. Ill be back there first weekend I August. I usually go a few times a year. The campground is very nice, bath houses are heated and cooled and are super nice and normally clean. Cabins are also really nice. Windrock is a but expensive due to the Tenn taxes but the 72,000 acres makes it worth it.

Not sure about an easier drive than Harlan..... You need to go through the mountains into Tennessee. If I remember correctly the grade through Jellico is pretty steep. So it is not exactly an easy tow.

I'm exited to go check windrock out.

I know it's not an easy tow at all. I thought it would be an easier drive compared to Harlan after you hit the Corbin exit. Coming back out of Harlan is the worst.

I like checking out new places. Can't wait!!

Easy.. I've been to Windrock 3 times now, since 2005. The last trip was in April of this year. I had a great time. It's a great big place. I've never went without a somewhat local that know's the place, which makes a huge difference on what you see. Rattlerock is tough. We ran it last trip, for the first time through to the exit. Big boulders. Little mule, is fun as well.

Nope, Chev 1 ton box truck with a 6.0. The whole setup weighs 17,500lbs with the rig behind it. It don't like hills so much... It does alright though.

You talking dates? I am flexable, Jimmy is not. This is the only weekend he can do.

beer_goggles_009

I think the dates should work, I have not offered that as a flexible. Not sure what time they will be available Friday. At worst we can run by ourselves Friday, with the Guide telling up what trails are goodl

Then they can join us when they are available.

I think it will work.

When is everyone else planning on going down. Thursday night or Friday morning?

Great!! We will most likely do primitive camping. Since I sleep in my box truck, I would rather get an RV spot and plug in. It's better than running a generator. I think Jim wants to do primitive. It's up to you guys. If you do a cabin, I'll do the rv spot.

Yeah that should work for me Kevin......ill PM you my cell number. I'm trying to get out one last time before Windrock. Made a few minor adjustments to the truck since Harlan.....hydro assist adjustments, new drive shafts, CO spring rates and most importantly a muffler install!.......o and some wake tower speakers for those long trail rides.

Im pretty excited for this trip now that some of the "test run" nerves are gone

I'm going with a group out of the Louisville area and we'll be there from Wed until at least Friday, possibly may do a run on Saturday-Sunday as well if my junk is still in one piece.

As far as the tow, it's not that bad at all. My tow rig is a 5.7 Hemi gasser Durango and I've made the trek twice since I got the rig and trailer. If that heavy pig can haul ok, then you guys with real tow rigs won't have any issues at all!

Jim and Jimmy can't leave till Friday morning. I could leave Thursday evening. Chris "GotHodgie" and Robert "Wrenchmonkey" are thinking about going too. Robert would leave around noon on Friday. What time you thinking about leaving on Thursday?

What time Thursday are we leaving? I don't usually get home from work till 5:30, but I could leave a little early if needed. I might have one more coming with us.

I could do whatever works for everyone else. I usually get off work at 3:30 so whenever you want is fine. I suggest that we try and avoid rush hour through Cincy.

I assume we will meet at the rest stop on 75 like normal. Truck side.

It looks like we might hit the 3-6 rush hour. What time we hit the rest stop will depend on what time Ben gets off work.

Upper rattlerock was a tough run when we were down there this spring. Big rocks. I made it, and Nick made it. My buddy Mark broke a chrome moly 60 front axle at the exit. It was fairly dry that day. Took a while to get through.

Let's just say that you should never have a map pack installed on your GPS other than the main map while trying to get there... I added a nice map of the north Cumberland trail system before we went. My GPS took us through about 12 miles of the trail system. It took over 2 hours to get through it. It was totally insane. :sweatin: Lesson learned. Now I can honestly say that I have wheeled my tow rig while hauling my off-road rig.

In harlan that was a late night parts run on relatively nice road in a pickup. At windrock we ran 12+ miles of trails with our trailers loaded..... and no one was broken when we started.

We came in on the top of the mountain on G1 from highway 116. We were on G1 for about 9 miles till we hit P1. We got to the bottom and Jim's rotors were red hot and smoking like crazy.
