CT15 is coming up quick! We scheduled a little earlier this year: Four weeks from now, October 24th and 25th.
Haspin Acres had been a tradition for years, but this time we've decided to mix it up a bit.
We're going to start at Dirty Turtle Off Road (Bedford KY) on Saturday morning, wheel all day, and camp there Saturday night.
They have cabins available with heat and electric, bathhouses, and a nice general store.
Then Sunday morning we'll pack up and head east, to Mud Madness. This is the old Hills N Hollars in Lockport KY.
This should be less than an hour's drive, and a lot easier than last year's Haspin-DTOR trip.
Any and all are welcome, front and rear tow points are strongly suggested.
Post up and I'll put a roster together. Look forward to seeing everybody out there!

- - Specifics and details - -
Times:
We'll meet at the Union KY reststop (71/75 South, milemarker 177) at eight, which should put us at DTOR about 9:00 or 9:30
Sunday, we'll try to get up and gone by nine, to hit Lockport by ten, in case someone wants to meet us for the back half.
Facilities:
DTOR has cabins that sleep four comfortably, up to eight if you're hard up. They're sparse, but have heat and electric.
They also put in bathhouses that looked really nice last year.
There's a general store with some sxs parts, snack foods, and apparel.
Mud Madness has a barn where they take your money. And maybe a portalet.
Prices:
DTOR's weekend pass is normally $35, but I talked to Stephanie, and if we bring a decent group, she'd let us do a $20 day pass.
That will include primitive camping and bathhouse access. Passengers are $5.
The cabins are $60 for four, plus $5 a person over that. They do need to be reserved, with a deposit.
Mud Madness is $15 driver, $10 passengers.
Addresses, Distances and Drive Times:
Dirty Turtle Off Road: 93 Bucks Run Road, Bedford, Kentucky 40006
Mud Madness: 2740 Harpers Ferry Rd, Lockport, Kentucky 40036
Union Reststop to Dirty Turtle: 53 miles, 56 minutes
DTOR to Mud Madness: 36 miles, 56 minutes
Mud Madness to Cincinnati (via 355/277): 77 miles, 1:26

If we head to the backside towards mud hole hell we should be fine. Robert do you happen to remember where the bees are?

Lots of bees. But hopefully with the cool weather they won't be an issue. It was a very good climb. Yes I think it was where you broke the spring hanger

That sucks. Catch you next time. Rush on the 14th maybe?
In other news, I can't go wheeling without a last minute repair. Got my shiny new gas tank in this morning. Skid plate and hitch tomorrow.

I can't figure out why I have no rear brakes. I guess I blew out the master cylinder when I blew a front line at windrock. I have pulled so much fluid through that system there is no way I have air in there

Saturday looks wet, but Sunday looks a lot better. You could catch the second half...
WrenchMonkey
10-22-2015, 05:29 PM
It's a bad name. The terrain is very similar to DTOR. Lots of hill climbs, rocky creeks, etc...
Calling it "Mud Madness" was a bad idea, people think that's all that's there.
WrenchMonkey
10-22-2015, 06:00 PM
Where did you see that? They seemed about as picky as Haspin when we were there...

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm not trying to talk you into it, but if you wanted to wheel and can't Saturday, you certainly could Sunday. Your call!

Unless there's a drastic turnaround in the weather this weekend, count me out. I'm ready just in case but looks like too much rain for me.
You could always come out Saturday and ride with me when its raining and the buggy when its not. Better than sitting at home...

Sat looks like it's getting soaked from morning thru the night. That's just too much rain for me.
I have a roof and a windshield, so only one side of you will get wet.
They're only expecting a 1/4" of rain. Light rain ain't no biggie...

Check again with the national weather service. They said the same then updated it just a bit ago to between 1/2" and 1" of rain with thunderstorms. Btw, all weather forcasting is based off of it's models.
Models are for kids.
You should've kept your yota for days like this. smileypoke

The rain hasn't been bad. Sporadic light rain. Started getting muddy later in the day. All in all, a great day.

Thanks for posting the photos. I appreciate seeing new areas and rigs even if I don't get the chance to wheel there.
Did you have to drive over that tree that appears to be blocking the trail? I think logs can be tough.
beer_goggles_009
10-26-2015, 08:30 PM
Yep, you drive over the tree. It was pretty rotten so I doubt it lasts long

Wow, can't believe I missed another C.O.R.E. Tour. But what happened to the tour part? Maybe I can make the Hangover run this year, next year. Any plans for that yet?

But what happened to the tour part?
What do you mean? We did Saturday at DTOR, Sunday at Mud Madness.
Maybe I can make the Hangover run this year, next year. Any plans for that yet?
Hangover is traditionally at Haspin. But no, no solid plans...
