Looks like the same schudule as last year.
That's what we based it on for starters. Certainly open to suggestions.
Was there one you'd cancel instead?

The schedule worked out well last year, so why not do it again...
I'd be up for checking out Golden Mountain, but personally, I'm not driving 400 miles for a 500 acre park. GM would have to be pretty awesome to drive 5hrs for 500 acres.

I'm not opposed to change, I just don't want to drive more than 5hrs to wheel.
I'd like to try something new this year. Never heard of Gold Mountain. AOP looks like fun as long as the boucers aren't there having an event. Rausch creek is suppose to be sweet too.
Rausch does look cool, but it's 8hrs away.

It's just that there are only so many weekends. We try to plan trips that have drawn a crowd in the past.
That said, March is open if you'd like to add a long-haul, big-dog run. Or late Sept, maybe. Someplace new would be great for the more adventurous.
Other notes: MV4W on July 30, and Rush on Aug 5-7, are two consecutive weekends. Do we maybe want to move Rush back a week or two, even if it means canceling Mud Madness on the 20th? We can schedule another local run in Sept.
Edit: Also adjusting the October dates. The 9-11th was a Sun-Tues. Trying to verify Fall Crawl, and avoid it by a week or two.

Yeah, there are definitely two groups, anyway. The mild, streetable guys that like to daytrip; and the big, trail only rigs that prefer to go where the bigger action is.
We try to accommodate both. We'll often do two runs a month in the summer, one near, one far.
But we do all get together from time to time. Rush is nice middle ground that draws both. And the big dogs will often stay local for the Hangover and CORE Tour, just for the simple fun of it.
And those are always our best turnouts. Most years see 15-20 rigs. Would it be nice if we could gather that many every month, every ride? Sure it would. But you're right, it's just not realistic. Different rigs, different capabilities, different financial and time restraints. Different ideas of "fun."
But if we can all get out once a month or so, and get the whole club together a couple-few times a year, I'm good with that.

Edited to add a calendar to the original post.
Looking at that, there are a few gaps where we could squeeze another road trip to Golden Mountain or AOP:
- Late February through all of March.
- Late April though mid-May.
- Mid-to-late June, after the picnic at Rich's
- November and December are wide open, if you're into the cold.
It also shows the MV4W and Rush trips back to back weekends. Should we moce Rush to the 12th to 14th? We can push the daytrip on the 20th back into September, opposite Windrock.
Opinions?

yea because doing the same thing year after year is always fun...
I guess what the people say that have been to GM are just trying to get you to go to make you mad once you are there? I have said to all of you more than once that i would go to GM over Harlan everytime... Better camping, like 4 or 5 shelters, heated shower house, less people, and only 10 minutes from the highway... but that's just me...
Change can sometimes be good kevin!
yes it is....

I guess i'm just the odd ball in the mix... Drive there, beat the crap out of my Yota, and then drive back home... oh yea... I guess it's that 4 letter word there that makes the difference... :winking:
just a couple pics from GM... Big rocks and mulitiple rock gardens are no fun right?
just my 2 cents...

That's not how I remember your trip to Tennessee... smileypoke
But nobody's saying you can't go to GM. Nobody's saying we can't call it an official "club run," whatever that's worth.
We just didn't put it on the schedule originally because it seems like father than a lot of people like to travel. But if you want to, go ahead. Have fun, take lots of pics to make us all jealous. I even pointed out some available dates, pick one.
What's the problem?

so 1 time on a trailer changes it all ? :winking:
If you hadn't let me use your tow rig i would have ended up driving anyway...
I know nobodys saying i can't go... No problem... tried a couple times before to get something together for a trip to GM... no luck then so I'll just keep going with my Yota folks... :winking:

Ha, no, just razzing you back, Mr InvincibleYota...

And I guess that was our thought. We'd rather schedule a trip to Rush that eight or ten guys might go to, than a trip to TN that'll only get two or three.
But it doesn't really have to be either/or. Pick a date and we'll add it. If OffroadOH's group goes in late April, we can combine with that.
S'all good.

So if we add Golden Mountain will you guys go? It's usually the same 4 that go on the big trips. There were 11 trips on the schedule last year. I made 9 plus a bunch that weren't on there. The change I'd like to see is see more people on the trips.

My rig is done, as of a couple days ago. I'll be tagging along on trips with Jim now. If that's cool with you guys.

I don't know enough about GM to make a comparison. Harlan has 7+ class 5 trails/obstacles and besides the southern shine we go on the off weekends. Plenty of camping and wide open trails plus it's open everyday. We usually show up late thurs. GM doesn't open till 6pm on friday. That doesn't leave a lot of time to wheel. GM seems a bit pricey too. $25 per vehicle on first day and $15 each additional day plus $10 a day rider, $5 a day passenger. IDK, not knocking the place, just sayin.
if you get in contact with the owner and plan accordingly you can get there whenever you like, if i recall correctly... you can also reserve a shelter and have the place for just the group you go with...
It's up to you guys... I'll go when i can, but i'm not doing the planning for something that just fizzles out when the time comes... been there done that... :winking:

If that's possible to do that would be for the best to get people to go, I'm good for trying something new, it's a little further than Harlan but from what I hear they have made the most outa the park for its size, i know you have mentioned the park to me a few times and Rob recently talked with me about it also, further away trips are always hard to get people to fully commit. I don't see why we can't put that in our calendar and see what group will get together to go.

Okay then. Memorial Day was Windrock. Labor Day was Harlan. Either could be moved to GM.
Fourth of July is open, but backs right up to the Main Event. I don't know if you'd want two out-of-town runs in consecutive weekends?

If gold mountain is put on 4 of july weekend i can not attend due to camping trip already plained. I 3 day weekend even leaving friday for goldmountain will be fine instead of a holiday weekend. I can even have our buddy adam come over snd be our guide for the week end.

I would love to check out golden mountain. However whenever we schedule a trip to somewhere new and far away it genarally gets cancelled. See ivy branch the last two years for examples. I know personally I cannot go on or near the fourth of July weekend.

I doubt I will be able to wheel less than Half of the scheduled trips for 2016 due to my shoulder surgery which is most likely gonna take place in late May or first week in June, I'm hoping I'm gonna at least be able to wheel Harlan before I'm outa commission for 3 to 4 months. Gonna try to possibly be a rider if a can a few months after surgery if cleared by a doctor, cant take the risk of a accident or roll over that will put me outa commission for longer, i have to be able to recover properly so I can return to work. I'm not looking foward to missing out on some good wheeling fun for 2016

Maybe its just me, but I'd rather risk a visit to GM than attend the main event. Harlan and Windrock should def stay where they are.....I'm still researching GM at the moment and need more time and more input from Kevin and the 2 Jims.
I agree...I would rather try Golden Mountain than attend the Main Event for 2016, I will most likely be a passenger in Marks buggy if doctor says ok.
Trying to add another big far away trip to the current 2016 schedule will most likely be too tough for most that don't have deep pockets and or available time to take off of work.....Just my thoughts guys..

I agree also. GM could be a replacement for the badlands in July. That is about the only trip I would want to replace. The problem with that is I know Jim B always goes to the main event, so he would be out. The hours of operation there suck. I will most likely go somewhere else anyway, Rush maybe.
The drawback to GM is the 10 hrs of driving for a day and a half of wheeling. It would be nice if we could get in there Thursday evening and leave Sunday afternoon.
Cost wise, I can't do a Harlan, Windrock, and GM trip back to back. I try to balance the long trips "Harlan - Windrock" with the closer places like Rush because of costs. I can go to Rush almost twice verse's Harlan or Windrock.

Talked to Jim B., he says he's fine missing the GM trip if it's the same weekend as the main event. So how many will make the GM trip if it's July 8-10?
93 Krawler
05-11-2016, 11:28 AM
Due to work, Jim B couldn't make the Windrock trip in September, so we swapped Windrock for Rush in August. So now he will miss Rush instead of Windrock.
