Update on old post
I lifted the truck off the ground
the front drive shaft is turning and the left Axel
The right Axel is not turning
do I need to replase the front end
hubs unlocked no grinding
locked hubs and get a lot of grinding
that feels like it's comming from the transfer case

If the front end is not locked and diff. is open one tire will spin and the other will not. Sounds like the chain in the case.

Are you spinning it by hand, or do you have all of the tires off the ground and putting the trans in gear and spinning the tires that way.
Assuming the front diff is open, it would be pretty normal for the driveshaft to spin and only one of the front tires to spin. To do some more checks on the front axle:
- put t-case in 2wd
- have both front tires off the ground
- have the hubs locked in
- spin driveshaft by hand - one or both front tires should spin
- spin one of the front tires by hand, one of the below will happen
- if open diff
the other front tire will spin the opposite way
the driveshaft will spin, opposite tire will not
- if limited slip/posi
the other front tire will spin in same direction
AND the driveshaft will spin
Also take a look at the u-joints in the front axle shafts (look through the knuckle) and make sure they are not loose.
After that look at the u-joints in the front and rear driveshafts for any play.
If the noise seems to be in the t-case, then it could be the chain. If it's loose or worn it can still engage the front tires, but make noise. Though I commonly see shifter problems also causing a grinding noise...shifter is out of adjustment and therefore not full engaging the gears in the t-case and causing the grinding.

I got the hole truck off the ground and was able to get out with it running
I think the nose is comming from the hubs now
