Kelly Hawkins brought a friend to the last Meeting. He wants to join the club. He stoped by yesterday to take some measurements of my lift so he can fab up some control arms. He and a few of his friends want to go along with the club next week-end to Haspen. I will be going(fixed my problems last week-end) along with a friend of mine. We plan on going Saturday for the day. Weather forecast, mid 60's and sun. Mud should be dried up after rain tomorrow.May be a good ride. Post up if you guys can make it. Bob.

Cool, you guys have fun, but I won't be able to make it... Haspin in my rail is fun, but requires about 3 weeks to clean afterwards...

Mud should be dried up

we must be thinking of a different haspin! the one i know has mud even when there is a drought. hahahah

Wow Jack, going all the way back to the "Giving Tree" with the new stuff... nice.

Jeff, if it's you, Jimmy and Steve... I hope that the "newbie" knows what he's in for... (and I hope that his fire extinguisher is FULLY charged  )
Just kidding... sort of. :p

How come I've never seen anyone drive down devil's backbone? I mean Jeff and Mike did it but they were going backwards so that doesn't count. I've been up in a buggy and seen several people climb it but everyone uses the bypass to get down. By the way last time I took that pass there was a good 7-8 ft vertical ledge midway down.

yes, that drop off going down almost endo'd my rail last time there... scared me.

I dunno why no one goes down the middle... no fun i guess. bypass is damn near as dangerous now.

Was wondering that myself the last time I was coming up it in the railbuggy...

And I could've sworn that there was still yellow paint on that tree... :D
Wish I was around for that one too... Have fun all.. I want VIDEO!! (if it's not too sloppy)

Hehehe, with a photo of that YJ... you'll fit right in... Welcome to the board, and post up some more specs of your rig... (and some pics of that windshield... ;) )

Just follow the trail of broken parts, torn off body bits, and the smell of burnt tires and burnt wiring... That should be the crew... :D

Actually I have gone down it several times. It is a lot of fun to do. I will check it out tomorrow and If it looks ok I will be going down.

I will be taking the camera and Video camera also if I have discs for it.

Man , you guys must be getting soft, I was there about 3 weeks ago and a dude climbed it in a Rhino!

I can also tell ya that the bypass is a much tuffer climb these days, I pee'd myself tackling it on my 250R..:o

Don't much matter , once you mix in some rain/mud Backbone can be literally dangerous!

Have fun , Jeff

I'm just kidding. I think I was walking from shade to an open spot when I snapped the photo. And it some how caught the color wrong.

sarge
03-26-2007, 12:48 AM
OK I'll go ahead and post up since the crap is already starting :D

I really don't have an explanation of what happened , it wasn't that big of a hill. I came right up the lower section and then got to the spot , small ledge and small rut , Dan ( montero Dan ) yelled out to get to the left ( close to the tree ) I just couldn't find any traction and on the third attemp I was backing off of the ledge to try again and it started:mad: popped up pretty fast and then went into slow motion . the right side of the Jeep hit VERY VERY hard on the rock ledge . Good thing is no one was hurt just my Jeep.

Carnage report :
Rock pushed the right side hard door into the cage and blew out the cosey wing, and giving the door a nice new shape. The windshield survived the impact , however , about 30 seconds later it spider webbed right in fornt of me . the frame is toast , I might be able to salvage it for a spare but ?????
Hard top suffered a rather large crack on the front corner but its fiberglass and easy to repair.
And I also got a rather large soup bowl on my drivers side cowl ????????  damn Miller Lite , I have no idea how it got there or when

All in all it was a great day , I spent all day today cleaning up the mess , thank god the river is out of its banks . I took a trip down to the bike path ( which is under about a foot of water and made about 25 passes up and down it . cleaned about 75% of that sticky crap off the Jeep . Then took it home and got the pressure washer out.
Took the hard top and doors off for the season and also removed a slightly used windshield frame.
Got another frame with glass just a few hours ago and will be cleaning it up and giving it a rattle can paint job tomorrow .....:D :D :D

Oh , while I was blasting the bike path I had two Jeeps stop and see if I needed help ( cause I stopped a couple of times in the deep stops to hand wash alittle ) .... I was just off of State Rt. 73 and hundreds of vehicle were passing by , only two that stopped were Jeeps .... Gotta love it

sarge
03-26-2007, 01:19 AM
Well I really wasn't technically on the bike path , more like the drive way to the parking lot so you'd been OK , I still expected Monroe PD to show .. I figured that some wiener would have called them . My Lt. did drive by and called me laughing and saying that it was better then destoying my front yard with the mud.

Those Haspin trees just LOVE to jump out and take a bite of anything that's passing by... I think I have the younger brother of your bowl on my driver's cowl... thanks Haspin.

I talked with Dan, he felt pretty bad about the roll, as you guys had followed him down that hill... Tracey has a bunch of pics... but on film, so when she gets them back, I'll bring them to you or post'em up... hopefully I can get them from Dan before the next meeting... I believe that there's a pink hook calling your name... :D

nolan

carwash

That belongs to Jim Smith. Previously owned by Steve Waters. Yes 1/4 elliptic rear, leaf front, fully hydro, etc... bad ass rig.

jeepmanjeff
03-26-2007, 04:53 PM
Yup all was good till Sarge decided to flop her over. Eric...the "LITTLE" jeep got thru great for his first ever off road experience trip. However when he was cleaning his rig the next day he decided that the radiator needed cleaning with a pressure washer. He blew out all his fins on the radiator  . So he had to buy a new one. Looked like a chinese fan blown apart!

Steve was the only otyher casualty from CORE for the day, Blowing a left front u-joint on 3 wheel hill.

Cincicrawler had some scraping noise from the e-brake ending his day a little aerly.

Devils backbone was impassible. I tried several times to get up it. It was extremely wet and had a lot of bounciness in t so you could not get any momentum. Heck coming back up the way I went down was hard enough!

All in all a real good day...needed a lot of HP/torq and wheel speed!

carwash
03-26-2007, 05:00 PM
dang, 3 wheel hill has claimed a few rigs on past trips, thats funny. I have wasted a u-joint on it more than once.

the backbone was that bad eh? wow.

Cincicrawler
03-26-2007, 05:09 PM
it was still fun even with the nasty A$$ mud. As you can see in the photos. We have the rig on the lift. But have yet to open it up to see what went wrong in the rear parking brake. I am thinking Joel will be starting on it in the next 48 hours.
I think we did good.Kept up well with the 2 larger tired rigs. :)

The wrangler LOVES the rev-limiter ! What you think Jeff ?

My new rig. Just need some 1 tons under it. Its hard to keep the foot off the skinny pedal. It sat at dad's for 2 1/2 years now. I kinda new the joints might be a little dry. But had a ball on the quad.
Learned alot about how to run one in the woods. (point and shoot) Totally different then a Jeep. I love playing in the mud.

scott,im gonna have to make you show me these hillclimbs, too. im sorry we missed the fun this time. we were planning on coming, but some of us didnt have our jeep fixed in time, and then instead of just coming out in my rig we found ourselves tearing apart an old semi trailer to get some free E track

i have a feeling im going to really like wheelin with you and your truggy :D

How come I've never seen anyone drive down devil's backbone?
Paul

guess youve never been there when i go down thats how i do it every time. straight down is definately safer IMO than taking one of the side shoots. if we dont go straight down the middle,we will usually go down the "crack" wich is that rocky creekbed to the right.
