humm sound like he is over inflating the price to make a good faith effort to sell it but does not really want to sell it, has to look good to his wife to be...

If he took it to a shop,had them pull apart both axles and weld the diffs,then put both axles back together he probably does have $750 in them. And if he had a shop take them apart,then took the thirds to someone else,then back to shop he'd probably have more than that in them! Not that its right,and it would completly defeat the point of welding it...
