Just curious but what are everyones future build plans? I want to put my xj on 35s for right now but eventually put bigger axles in and move up to 37or 38s. This will then either be passed down to one of the kids (oldest is seven) or sold in several years and I want to build a crew cab 6 foot flat bed Super Duty boatsided with rockwells, coilovers on all corners and at least 42s.

in the next year or so i want to pick the kid up a yj to start building as a DD/trailrig for when he turns 16. if we start it now, we should be able to afford to build it slowly into a pretty nice rig over the next 4 years. if i wait, i'll have ot put mine on the back burner, and i can't be having that. i also would like to have a buggy done within the next couple of years.
my immediate plans for mine are to lower it 2 inches, change the front dual triangulated 4 link to a 3 link, get my new krawlers mounted up, redo the cage, tie the seats to the cage, and narrow and raise the rear frame. all of this is currently in the works.

my 89 yota with 2.5 old man emu lift, 4 runner axles, rock sliders, trail gear rear bumper, 33's, and a new rust free bed. And find another trail rig to start building.

Only thing stopping me is the fact that I can't STAND bodywork...

Neat... but a ***** on that departure angle... probably hangs up on speedbumps.
I'd like to build a new shop in the future.

Oh, it'd be way too big (and bodywork-intensive!) to ever wheel it, and too lightweight and underpowered (even with a 360 swap) to be much of a tow rig, but it'd make one Mean Macy's Machine...

Finish my Jeep build (we are talking distant future, right?)
Work in CW's new shop... :D
I'm also fascinated with Dana80/Rockwell hybrids...
But believe it or not, I think the next future rig will be smaller/lighter
I would like to build an enclosed trailer to haul the 6x6 in / camper. Something toward an expedition build.
id like to add a winch bumper to my kick , then go some where wheeling it. matt

an enclosed trailer to haul a 6x6... would that even fit down the road, height or width wise?

That is obtainable but will require alot of money to do so. Low deck, wide doors and something to pull it with that is substantial. My truck did not like hauling mine. Truck alone weighed 13,600 lbs. trailer was 5,800 lbs. :o Buddy bought a 5 ton dump 6x6 and a 6x6 5 ton wrecker with all rigging included to help support the 2.5 ton offroad. Nice units! :beers: Got a play date this sunday with them!

I want to build a 90's Range Rover Classic Expo rig. An older RR, not the p38. I've always loved their body lines. It will need to be comfortable and road worthy. With most of the time being a highway vehicle capable of some side streets and water crossings. I want to drive it to, and on the trans-labrador highway with my wife at my side.
I suppose I need to start with a Chevy whatever and bolt a rover body to it.
X2 on the expedition rig here is great site that is all about that.

Now for the remainder of the funny...I don't want to pick it up at a shop already done. I want to build it.

My build will be starting in a month or so , I have to stop remodeling the house and save some more $$$$$ , I have to buy a new TV and then it's on :D .
I'm going to take my 99 GMC 2 door Jimmy and SAS it with a set of 79 Ford 3/4 tons on H-1's and 37's . Kicking aroud the front suspension right now. I was going to leaf it but the longer I wait I think I'm going to link it or Radius arm it ?????? I think it will be a least minute thing.... I want to keep this one street and trail . My plan is to then find an extended cab Sonoma and cut it up and make a Cab Truck on no less then 40's with Rocks or at least tons..... prolly never happen ( the second build,,,, that is) but it's always good to dream.

and we have trouble with the bumper laws on our jeeps, how in the heck do those ratrods not have issues driving around without any bumpers at all?
RuffedUpXJ
01-19-2010, 01:34 PM
Because the cops think they are cool and so do I. I think the rule is 6" under the bumper to be legal. i had trouble with that back in my sweet ricer days and my Civic.

I love em too, just know that the second I got it on the road i'd be pulled over. along with height, i believe the bumper itself has to be 4" tall and be as wide as the center of the tires or something?
i'll probably just continue building junk jeeps.
I have a CJ project if anyone is looking for a good start of a project for CHEAP.

I have seen a couple diesel rat rods that look nasty. I think that would be cool along with a diesel in a TJ for a DD with some decent mileage.

Yep, 4.5" actually. But OAC 4501-43-04-B only states a maximum height of 22" for passenger cars, no minimum.
4501-43-03-B does say the body/frame can't hit the ground, but that's it.

For which rig the Jimmy or the cab truck ?
KargoMaster
01-20-2010, 06:15 PM
Jimmy... (cab truck will probably happen so far in the future - I'm certainly not saying you're lazy, it just happens, ask me how I know- that anything I suggest will be "old school" by that time...)
Just a suggestion... seems more contemporary than radius arms (but I always think *Bronco* {no offense Danny/Pete} when I think Radius Arms... not to mention leafs, but the simplicity of leafs is nice) and yet still friendly to highsteer and a steering gearbox for streetability-ish...
I'm currently trying to shove 40lbs worth of engine, (beefy) structure, exhaust, driveshaft and 4-links in a 5lbs space under the 5.0L...
...while getting perfect 4-link numbers...
