I'd like to convert my Dana 70 to disc brakes. Other than the EGR kit, is there anything more affordable?

Whats a EGR kit do?

I've put disc brakes on toyota's
a 87 chevy daily driver...14 bolt
and currently my 01 Dodge daily driver
it has a 70
did change to a larger master cylinder on the Dodge
thats it

That's a little better.

What are thoughts of a single rotor/caliper at the rear yoke. Good / Bad ?

I think that it would get smashed on a traditional pinion. It works on Rocks 'cause of the topload design

don't buy a kit... buy some weld on/bolt on brackets, get you some rotors and calipers and away you go. the peeps that sell the kits are just doing the legwork for you, and charging you a few hundred bucks for their time. Source the parts and get it done.

I agree with Carwash. I bought my brackets from Great Lakes Off Road and they worked out nice.

Here is a write-up from on the Dana 70 conversion on Off-Road.com. They used 77 K20 rotors and calibers, but I was told by Great Lakes to ask for 1985 stuff.

have never spent more than 200 on any swap
get brackets and spend your money elsewhere

NAPA (or your favorite local autoparts, all pretty close in price)
1975 Chevy 2500/3500 loaded (w/hardware and pads) calipers - $42.99 ea. (after core exchange, they'll take any old core just dig some up!)
1975 Chevy 2500/3500 rotors - $37.99 ea.
Rubber hoses for calipers 12" w/hardware - $15 ea.
hardlines (hand formable) and brass "T" fitting - $20 total

Roughstuff Specialties
brackets w/bolts - $45 per pair (with Pirate4x4 10% discount)

So $257 for all parts for 1 ton disc brakes for a rear axle. You may need a Master Cylinder upgrade depending on your vehicle. I got a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500MC w/big reservoir for my TJ for $109.99 at NAPA. For our YJ I got a 1968 Corvette MC (yes it was a bolt up!) for $16.99 at NAPA. You may need a metering valve if your peddal stroke is to long but they are cheap too.

Like everyone was saying the $900 kit os way tooooo much. I've done a 14Bolt rear and a Dana 60 rear just this winter for the Jeeps and it was a bolt up affair. I did make some tabs to hold the rubber lines in place for the hard line connection, but very sinple fab. It was $55 for the braided 12" caliper lines for a pair if you want to upgrade from rubber. I have also done this on 3 different 8.8 swaps.... supper easy.

The 8.8 parts were dang near same price as the big stuff!!!
BTW- replace all the hub/axle bearings and seals while your at it, it's not expensive either.

The big 4 wheel disc brakes ROCK! especially with big heavier tires!

Thanks for the parts list, that will make it much easier. I'll let you know how the process goes. I guess I'll have to paint mine all pretty as well.
