So apparently during last nights storm it was struck by lightning and burnt to the frame. I guess you shouldn't build statues out of styrofoam and fiberglass.
Its going to be an interesting day for anyone goin by it on 75 a lot of people looking and rubber-necking, and of course a lot of crazies.

This is a day of mourning. :( The statue was my inspiration. The wind in my sails! God has spoken and now we must listen.

Saw the damage is at $700,000...then read that included $400,000 to the amphitheater behind the statue, so only $300,000. All the fish in the pond are dead too. Still amazing... Front page of cnn.com next to the crook who got stuck in the ATM machine.
Anybody hear the new songs on Bob and Tom this morning???:D :D :D

Yea I would not be rebuilding it especially BIGGER. I mean if it was arson or the building fire spread. But, It was struck DIRECTLY by lighting!!COme on If that is not a sign I do not know what is.

This just doesn't get old ...
Was it Heywood this morning? Found this on cincinnati.com:
On the lighter side, comedian Heywood Banks, whose parody song about the statue, "Big Butter Jesus" has long been a favorite on radio's syndicated "Bob and Tom Show," announced Wednesday he had penned a new verse:
"One night Big Butter, Got hit by lightning, It burned to its frame wire, In a giant grease fire, Some blamed it on Satan, And boy that would be frightening, But I thought it's Jesus' Father, Who is in charge of lightning."

MONROE - The replacement for "Touchdown Jesus" won't look so ... football-like.
Next spring, a new design by local artist Tom Tsuchiya will replace the iconic Jesus statue at Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe.
That statue, with arms raised high and sculpted from the waist up, was destroyed in a spectacular fire caused by a lightning strike last June. It had been erected in 2004 at a cost of $250,000
A more traditional representation of Christ will replace it, but will still dominate the landscape, rising to the original statue's height of 62 feet when it is completed next spring.
Tsuchiya has designed a 51-foot-tall Christ figure that will stand on an 11-foot foundation of boulders and rocks. Water will flow over the rocks to the reflecting pool at the base of the statue.
The new figure - which the artist calls "Lux Mundi" - will have its arms outstretched in front as if calling people to him, Tsuchiya said. The Latin phrase translates to "Light of the World."
"I designed the statue with Matthew's gospel of the Sermon on the Mount in mind," he said.
Tsuchiya will begin sculpting the head and the hands in his Essex Place studio over the winter. Steve Brauch of The Glasshand will oversee work on the steel substructure when it is constructed on site in Monroe.
Materials used in the construction will be non-flammable, said Brauch. The substructure will be built with a lightning-suppression system installed as well, he said.
Tsuchiya is known for the life-size bronze statues of Cincinnati Reds players he created for Great American Ball Park in addition to the sculpture of long-time Reds announcer, Joe Nuxhall, at Water Works Park in Fairfield.
Brauch's company fabricated the fiberglass pigs for The Big Pig Gig and the subsequent Flower Power planters seen throughout the Greater Cincinnati region.
The cost of replacing the statue will be entirely paid for by insurance, according to Darlene Bishop, co-pastor of the church. The church is not soliciting any funds to pay for it.
"We feel that this is something for the community," Bishop said, answering critics who have said the church should be spending money on the poor instead of a statue.
"It's just a reminder for people to listen to Jesus' words, 'Come to me,' " Bishop said.
The cost of the new statue has not been disclosed.

I'm casting my vote for "$5 Footlong Jesus."

Edit: Anything's better than "Come-Unto-Me Jesus." Although, there are across the street from Hustler, aren't they? Somebody didn't think that one through...
