I am attempting to replace my rear main seal on my 258. It is a 2 piece design and the upper half is in the block. Any ideas on how to remove the upper half of the seal from the block?
I am contemplating just replacing the lower half and leaving the upper alone for now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank

It should push right thru. push up on the one side, and it should slide right out the other.

Do I need to loosen all of the bearing caps? I have tried pushing on it but am a little concerned to push too hard in fear of scratching or marring the bearing surface. Is it okay to spray some penetrating oil on it?

I would NOT loosen bearing caps, I can't see more lubrication being bad.
Probably just stuck... you'll get it.

It will come out, yer doing it right. just push it thru. that's why it's made as two pieces... More lube can't hurt. Do not loosen the bearing cap.

Got it out finally. Took a little penetrating oil and patience but its out now. Now I just to need to try and clean or get my hands on a new oil pump screen. Mine appears to be a little gunked up.
Thx for the info. I can always count on you guys to help.
