you can always tell which rigs are his build, thats for sure. down in dayton, wes kean showed up with one on 44 tsl's at the werock. sure looked like a fish out of water compared to all the other comp rigs. but he ended up spanking them all, took 1st.

twiztedzuki
10-18-2010, 12:30 PM
Yeah wes's single seater looks good. watched sum vids from Dayton, wes making it up sum bonus lines. I would have liked to see his buggy on 44s compared to other comp rigs! Probly had twice the wheelbase to compared to others!

jimmys chassis are definitely unique, i love the way the 2 seaters look, i've never been a fan of his single seater though. can't wait to see how this turns out for you. i've always wondered what the visibility was like out of the front of these?

twiztedzuki
10-18-2010, 08:06 PM
hope have it done in spring. I got propane mixer and tank mounts today, but waiting on tabs from A&A manufacturing to mount stuff. Jimmys buggys have pretty much same lines from single to 4 seater, he does topnotch work. He had 4 seater on 49's with a 43sumthing roller motor in it on rockwells when i picked up my chassis, not big on 49 iroks but it was badass!!

mckeddie
10-18-2010, 08:57 PM
..... Jimmys buggys have pretty much same lines from single to 4 seater, he does topnotch work. ....!

that's exactly why i've never been a fan of his 2 seaters, they just look funny to me, because they look like a 2 seater cut down the center, they are just too narrow imo. i've always loved his 2 seaters. pinky is really his only single seater i've liked. his rear engined personal buggy is my favorite of all of them i've seen.

That's going to be a nice looking rig. It's beautiful weather down here for camping, so you better come down while it is nice and before you get too tied up in the build.

I don't know anything about 'pane. How long will that bottle push that beast?

Was thinking the same thing, though I seem to see a lot of buggies on the 'net with a single tank. A friend carries 3 tanks on his trail rig and typically goes through a full tank and has to switch over to the second tank on a trail day.

good question! I got one spare, and a thirsty 500hp small block! I guess hav to wait and see

You'll need more than 1 spare, my 190ish HP V6 uses atleast 1 tank in a day of wheel'n. I have 4 that I bring for a full weekend, and I might know where 1 or 2 more are for a small price if you need some...

jwend
10-22-2010, 06:59 PM
Depends on how you wheel it, a good 8hr day is average, sometime less. But for sure get a few tanks, it will suck down pane the first few times you wheel it, pane set ups are self adjusting. The first run i had mine on it sucked down two tanks in probly 6 hours. Now I can flogg it 8 to ten hours and still have fuel in tank when i swap them.
I also may have a tank or few for sale i think i have ten total and use 4 or 5 of them

BIGRAM
10-23-2010, 04:37 PM
Guess I'll have to make a couple of brackets for the RAM, I'll haul 'em when you're down this way.:beers:

yellowjacket
11-19-2010, 03:45 PM
lookin good. what radiator is that? ive been lookin for one with a flange to mount it with on top like that one. got a model number?

i like the front truss. is it welded to the cast center section? any special prep on that?
lookin good!

twiztedzuki
11-19-2010, 04:14 PM
not sure on radiator, it is an Afco though. Yeah it welded to center just took torch and heated cast real good b4 i welded to it. I made truss long so it be dual purpose so my air bumps will contact it also

yellowjacket
11-19-2010, 04:29 PM
well its lookin really good. got a budget for the build?

twiztedzuki
11-19-2010, 04:39 PM

[QUOTEI made truss long so it be dual purpose so my air bumps will contact it also[/QUOTE]

so where r u gona mount ur coil overs/air shocks..............looks like u ran outa proptery on the axle tubes and the shocks would hit the frame on droop out if they were on the truss.

maybe on the lower link?

twiztedzuki
11-19-2010, 05:57 PM
running 17"bilstein coilovers, bumps will hit top flat of truss and c/o will mount on the angled down part of truss. think pic help

yellowjacket
11-19-2010, 06:54 PM
my truss is very simular to urs, airbumps bottoming on the top and shocks mounting almost on the knuckles. very simular.

im about at the same part of my build as you are, keep postin pics and im sure i will swipe some ideas:)

twiztedzuki
11-19-2010, 07:02 PM
Yeah i stealing my ideas from Jimmy sense he built few! I orderd 1.25 chomoly heims that been cryo and heat treated from ruffstuff for links. good deal on them, anyone else seen there site? hav 3/8 tabs instead lite duty **** too

RuffedUpXJ
11-21-2010, 07:21 PM

couple different ideas, on suspension. Jimmy Penner on eor built Tc's green Smith buggy suspension

smokenram
12-03-2010, 08:24 PM
This is looking sweet!!! Nothing like a Smith buggy. Your doing some Nice fab work!! I mainly joined this site just for this thread, wanting to see it done. What color ya paintin frame?? You putting any body pannels on it at all or leaving it all tube frame?? What kinda HP number you hope to get out of motor? who built it or where ya get it from?-Chris

Again, looking good:beers:

twiztedzuki
12-04-2010, 05:00 PM
aint sure on color yet. or paint vs powercoat. sum buddies said if it theres they would clearcoat the bare tube. aint planning on panels but never know. It should be around 500hp company on Tn built it, it was spare motor for boss's race car and i bought it. got table full parts just waiting on heims still to get it rollin. should have them monday then get sum new pics up

smokenram
12-05-2010, 07:32 AM
Nice, I like the fact you using a small block motor. I thought most the other smith buggy's out there are BB. A good high HP SB that rev's higher/faster than BB should do pretty well with such a light weight rig. nother question, Did you, or are you, doing all the figuring for the 4-link? from what i hear the key is getting the math down just right to get a 4-link to work well. Is Jimmy giving ya some pointers on how to do it, orr how he uasally does it, or whatever?

twiztedzuki
12-06-2010, 07:21 PM
no most jimmys buggys are small blocks 383, 406, he had a fourseater with a 434 in it. I doing four link, i hav built quite a few rigs suspensions and he pointed out few things to help out. got few things today and got front suspension tacked in place

Jordandg
12-06-2010, 07:49 PM
do you have anymore pics of the upper link frame mount? is that one piece you bought or did you have to box 2 together?

twiztedzuki
12-06-2010, 09:28 PM
it is the 22.5 degree 1.75 mount from polyperformance modified to fit frame

yellowjacket
12-06-2010, 09:30 PM
where that battery box come from?

twiztedzuki
12-06-2010, 09:55 PM
battery box, heims and 3/8 tabs came from ruffstuff speciaties

smokenram
12-06-2010, 10:40 PM
Looking good man!!! I'm liken the four link set up, looks nice clean work. I must of been mistaken, i was thinkin they ran alot of the 502's, Maybe i'm thinkin of coleworx.. Maybe you said it, and i didn't read it, but you building the propane set up, or is it a kit from somewhere?-Chris

Jordandg
12-07-2010, 12:19 AM
Are the motor mounts hard mounted?

mckeddie
12-07-2010, 07:14 PM
sure you have enough vertical seperation on the frame end? looks like its going to want to lift under throttle? on 2nd look, maybe it is just the camera angle?

yellowjacket
12-07-2010, 07:53 PM
hard to tell with the camera angle id say...

im wondering about the upper heims mounted sideways...?

paint vs powdercoat i think depends on how hard you beat it... if you really plan on tearing it up on your side in the rocks id def stay away from powdercoat. harder to touchup, scrapes off with a divot, ect...

either way, looks good. if welds are pretty, i like the clearcoat idea.:)

twiztedzuki
12-07-2010, 10:22 PM
positive, 4inches verticle on frame end 9 on front axle. got heims sideways off Jimmy Penner of Eor. clearcoat i think look good, welds are slick! as long as i dont f them up!!:beers::beers:

Hope Springs Hauler
05-04-2011, 01:46 PM
I could deffinately be wrong, but I think that I read an Impco manual that said that propane carbs adjust opposite of gasoline carbs. For example, if you want a leaner mix on a gas carb you adjust the screw in to tighten the needle to seat clearance. On the propane carb you would screw it out to restrict the valve.

This has seemed to work so far on my smaller propane stuff.
