View Full Version : Rocked to the CORE Tour 11/6 & 11/7

Rocked to the CORE Tour will run Haspin Acres in Laurel IN on Sat 11/6 travelling to Big Rock Offroad Park in Maysville KY that evening to camp, then spend all day Sun 11/7 at Big Rock.

Few have mentioned camping Friday night at Haspin, that's up to each person.
Trailering rigs is allowed

Saturday 11/6 @ Haspin Acres http://www.haspinacres.com/

Plan to arrive by 8am to be able to join up with a group. Registration will be the normal process. Cost is $16 per person. If this is your first time and you don't have their liability card for 2010: you will need to sign waivers and cost will be an additional $1.

A group will be somewhere in the parking lot with the CORE Banner -- look for us
We have no 'formal' runs planned at either park. Just get with a group and run what you want to.

It's about a 2 1/2 hr run from Haspin to Big Rock. Thought is to get ready to leave from Haspin by 5p (or 4pm if you want time to set up camp there). Foodwise/Dinner it's up to each person on how you'll handle (I've heard some say they plan on grilling once they set up camp at Big Rock). Primitive camping is no charge there, if you want electric we will need to see about cost so PM me.

Sunday 11/7 @ Big Rock Offroad Park http://www.bigrockoffroadpark.com/articles/home.asp

Big Rock is offering us a group rate of $15 per rig (passengers are no charge but will need to sign the waiver)
Gates open at 9a, registration will be the normal process.
Once again, no formal runs but someone has GPS the park and it works with Google Earth so you can get a copy of the trails. There's a link on CORE for it, if you're interested.

I will have some stickers printed up in both white and black text available. Questions? Let me know.

See everyone there!!

Technically the event dictates camping, but we've pretty much made this our own event anyway. Next year's event(s) I hope to have more friendly camping weather. I plan on camping (read: girl). Though if it rains, all bets are off.

Sounds like fun. I'm still trying to shake the chill from camping at Harlan last weekend. I wouldn't make a good homeless person. It was cold in the mountain. Between freezing and the thoughtful guys camping down from us blaring this siren at 3am right next to us, we didn't sleep hardly at all. We looked like zombies all weekend.

Haspin was extremely dusty and you had to look really hard to find any mud today. Hopefully it will rain soon before the event. All the trails were extremely easy due to traction being plentiful.

I can get there it will take some remembering though. We used to meet up at the Wendys at the Cleves exit on 74. Anyone plan on doing that? Also Core used to be big on the night runs. Some of the best times we had were at night. Does that still happen?

Few things:

1. How many people are planning on running both days? I will have some stickers for those that are...

2. If you'll give me your name and/or names of passengers, I can create a list for Haspin. Mention you're with CORE, they check the list, if you're on it; you'll get $2 off per person entry.

3. For those camping at Big Rock, would anyone be interested in a night run? Wondering if there is interest before we throw details together.

The concensus of the crowd last night (and wow was there a crowd last night), was to start both days at 9am. So we'll plan on landing at Haspin around 9am Sat. We have a group of 3 nutcases who are camping overnight Friday there and hopefully will have the CORE banner visible on something by that time. We can then see how many we have to determine how many groups, etc.

Call the park office at Big Rock for electric spots. For those coming down to Big Rock on Sunday, plan on being there around 9am. (Friendly warning that the speed limit on AA in KY is 55mph, not 56mph or 57mph. Cops have been known to watch that section closely.) We'll see how many and determine groups, yada, at that time.

What am I missing? Questions ?

(I only joke because I recall you saying that insurance was good to you... personally, I would be devistated if my garage full of parts went up in smoke)

You are correct... I was devistated and the isurance company was good to me...:D

I live in Warren county, but i have not heard anything about not being able to transport firewood...

I'm in for Friday night and Sat at Haspin , I will not be going to Big Rock. What time is everyone getting to Haspin on Friday ?????

So ....

Put Sarge ( or should I say cough....cough ... Asst. Chief ) down plus a guest for the Haspin list.

Lets not camp in the front shelter. No night rides if you camp up front. Pete wants any night riding to be on the back "south" side of the property to keep noise down on the north side of town. We could camp back by the shoe tree and get loud with no problems! Rv can do it!

KargoMaster

This is the list I have for Haspin. There are varying degrees of what people think this will get you. I've heard you have to have 10 to get the discount, but does that mean only 11+ get $2 off? Not sure. My advice is take $2 more. Also debate around if you just say CORE versus being on this happy list. Sorry but it's really difficult to get solid info.

I am faxing this over tomorrow...I need a few names though (sorry if I should know this)...

go left past the old small motocross track past the front of the dragstrip. head down the main trail to where the trail has a Y in it and go right. go then right before the sand hills and you are at the shoe tree. hard to give directions to this.

I had a great time... got to ride along with Pater in the Razor... when I hit the lotto, I'll grab one for a spare trail vehicle for sure... it was a gooooood time and amazingly capable.

Liquidated some Boom... good time!

I got to drive Jamie's rig... beautiful 80's gen toyota that reminds me of my first DD truck... Did a little fender relocation per Jaime's direction... (I stop at the top of a V-notch and I hear "Well, go on!!" from the rig Jaime was recovering in...)
Later got to test my driving skills some more as I semi-flopped it (those rear springs are stiff) and drove it back out with almost no damage... (wheew!)

When we got back to camp, Sarge was packing up to hit the spare parts bin at home... So I drove him home and back (2:30-5:00am) in Zippy instead of him driving home and back in the RV... We get to his place and assess the 60 yoke that we need... I say "Where's your 1-5/16" socket for the pinion nut?" and he gives me that blank stare that says ...Huh? :D

I rode with Jason and Opie on Sat. night and slept wonderfully through most of this morning... Catching up on the Sarge road trip, I'm sure... Perfect!!! Could not ask for better...

For once I had a weekend without a single major breakage...(the fender doesn't count).. everything went well,.. besides a little low speed death wobble on the way home..

As for the Trail called "bypass"... My butt is still puckered thinking about it...

and last but not least Sorry for holding everyone up the million times I did.. You guys make me look like a quadriplegic in a ford focus on the trails.... :)

I think I have finally recovered from the Friday nights ALL NIGHTER !!!!

Thanks for the ride Brad ! I owe you one !

Had a blast , carnage list was short but rather pricey !!!!

Front Drive Shaft still too short ...... no big deal

But the real pain in the arse is :

Bent 3 Copper Head Fab centers on my H1's (both front and one of the rears)

This really pisses me off.......but I guess it's my fault for trying to save a little on the build. I ordered the 1/4" flat centers instead of the 3/8"..... Note to all ..... DO NOT RUN BIG TIRES ON 1/4" flats

Gonna order some Trail Worthy pressed centers and spend a day cutting and grinding the CopperJoke centers out of my rims ...

Oh and I Trail Lightened ( as Pater says ) the rig by removing some side glass .

Had a great time on Sunday... It was great to meet everybody and get out on the trails... It was my first time at Big Rock and it seems like it is a great place to wheel and can't wait until the next time i can go back...

I got some pics too, but most of them are from "Bypass" where Cory managed to lay his Yota p/u on its side...

We were heading to the by pass after we climbed back up the creek. I took the hardest line up that big rock ledge and did this. Still had a blast though.

As for the weekend,.. It was perfect... I am so happy to have been able to participate in the Night run... Running with you more "seasoned" wheelers opened my eyes to a lot of things I never thought I could ever do.. Big thanks to Nick for helping me through some of the more difficult terrain..

Rob

Great pics and vids....Love the night time stuff. Thanks for posting the vid of me (My first night vid) .Think I would have made it, if my tires were aired down further.
No apology needed, you did a good job all day...I'm so glad you kept it up on all fours on Bypass. What a close call.:D

Big thanks to everyone who came out either one day or both!!! It was great getting a chance to get some faces to go with names as well as a chance to run with some new rigs. It was a couple long days but well worth it for the fun factor.

I need to do a couple call outs..Thanks to the trail leaders on Sunday, Nick Lambert (Coppertop) and Scott Armstrong (flxratd). Appreciate you guys gracefully handling the pressure of leading everyone around on short notice.

Thanks Scott A for handling the trail meeting on Sunday on a 2 min notice.

Big thanks to Duke, at Big Rock, for letting us land there later Saturday evening than planned and still do a night run and for the firewood and for letting us camp together and..... oh heck, just thanks for everything this weekend!! It was a great time!

I hope everyone had a great time and I'm hoping to do something similar next year..stay tuned to see what we come up with. If you have ideas please let me know. I'm planning a time of year when we're not camping in 20 degree weather though...my favorite quote of the weekend was from the night run, when Scott A said "I think I have frost on the tops of my legs". Cause it was dang cold...

Tim, thanks for the ride Sunday. I appreciated it.

Kevin and others, thank you for the attempt to jump me. The darn thing started on it's own at home that evening. I would not have thought there would be enough battery to even turn it over.

I have been in Columbus since late Sunday night and just got home. Looks like tomorrow I will be off buying a new coil and plug wires.

Even though I was embarrassed because of my vehicle Sunday, I liked Big Rock and really enjoyed being out with the group I rode with.

I was wondering what happened to your Flattie... Sure looked good on the trailer though...

For once I had a weekend without a single major breakage...(the fender doesn't count)..

I keep telling Jaime that... :o
Looks like I owe someone a little garage time.... :beers:

As for the temperature... I enjoyed it... and I was never in a heated seat... but to each their own...

We were glad you came along. Nice to get you out with us!

A heated seat would have been nice. :p or a windshield, or doors or a heater. yes now I'm just bi--complaining because I can. I did have a great time though. Sunday's weather was really nice.

By the way, I find it funny that Skippy made it farther back in Haspin (as my Jeep stayed in the parking lot).

Hey Lisa do you have any pics of sunday?:D

Not many...Didn't realize it at the time but I think the camera stayed in the carrier most of the day. Sorry...

Had a really great time rock-n wit C.O.R.E:D
Everyone was very welcoming even though this was only my second time wheeling with you guys. I almost learned everybodys name by the end of the weekend!
Who was that Patter guy we were following around Fri. night! Now I know what my rig is capable of after that!
Made it through the weekend with only a few body mods :D
Took a lot of video but missed both of the flops that happened right in front of me both times:confused:
Looking forward to the next outing I can make with you all:beers:
So what was up with that shiny clean black wrangler that was at both locations but stayed so clean?
