Neat concept. 4 Wheel & Off Road magazine did one for their Ultimate Adventure in '07.

Just curious how they are to actually drive? I know they have lot's of torque and can get good mileage, but all of the 4BT's I have been around are noisy and are like driving a UPS truck around (i.e. not that fun).

Most of the Landcruisers i have read about get some good sound deadening done on the floors and firewall... The only one i have seen in person didn't seem to bad when it was just sitting at idle but i did not get to ride down the road in it... I have driven a fj60 with a 6.5 gm TD and it was not to bad at 50mph, but it had bias swampers so the tires were probably as loud as the motor...

There was a guy at Gravelrama swap meet this past spring who had a 4BT in a CJ 8. He had me wanting one. The thing sounded like it could pull out a mammoth from a tar pit.
