Well I fell in to a free 258 complete that has a lot of work done to it soooooooo..... I'm taking off Friday to start pulling motors apart to swap my old 4.0 head onto my new 258 . Keeping the F.I. of course.
Been searching the net and found a few good articles but wanted to here from some one that has done it ( cough , cough.... GPER ! ) .
Which dist. do I use?
if I use the 4.0 Dist. do I have to change the gear?
will my serp. setup bolt to the 258?
Any help would be great , I have to get this thing going...... it's killing me seeing all the rigs running around .
Why yes, yes I have. The HO head, water jackets drilled, tapped plugged, milled, and valve job.

I haven't put the distributor in yet, but I will use the 258 distributor with the Team Rush upgrade with the e core coil and the Summit CDI box.
I used the stock push rods, a Melling HO oil pump and when I retire is my plan to put the motor in. Or it might come sooner if the bigger carb and header( when I find the hearder) for the 258 that is in the Jeep doesn't do the job pulling the Polaris Ranger on longer trips.

Thanks , I got mine about 98% assembled , I used the 4.0 dist. and it seems like it's going to work. Hoping to drop it between the frame rails tonight .
Well, fill us in with detail.

If your looking for a serpetine belt setup from a `86 258 I have a set of parts.
It came from a 258 with the dummy a/c pulley bracket. The only item missing from setup is the alternator bracket but I had planned on leaving the alternator in the orginal location and not running the dummy a/c pulley bracket. Or if I could find a cheap serpetine clutch for my york I would run it complete with OBA then, but I haven't. Now its just taken up space.
If you are interested let me know.
Thanks,
Frank
