This year the Boyd Co. fair board approached me to do a rock crawling event during their fair. Several years ago we had a event at the Carter Co fair with good results.

The event this year will be a head up race, 2 rigs at a time. The course will be made up of rock sections, dirt hills, jumps and possibly some equipment tires to crawl over. There will be 2 classes, 37" and under tire class and a 38" and over class. The event will take place on Saturday July 23rd at 4pm at the Boyd Co. fair grounds in Ashland KY. The fair grounds are located just off exit 181 of I-64. I believe the entry fee for this event is $30, a helmet is required.

If anyone has any questions just post up and I'll try to answer them.

Awesome. It should be a good time. We had several show up at the Carter Co. fair. We are going to start moving dirt and rocks next Friday.

Sounds more like a tough truck mixed with a rock race than a rock "crawl" but if I was closer Id be ther!

You will need atleast the factory cage in the rig. You will also be required to wear a helmet. If the weather holds out we will be starting work on the corse at the end of the week.

I believe the fair board said there would be some sort of a payout also.

We started on the course today. We got about 1/2 of the day in before the rain really started. We should be looking good by tomorrow afternoon. I'll post some pictures to give you guys an idea of what it will be.

Here are a few pictures from today. The course will not be overly difficult but will be fun and entertaining.

r tires git n filld in wit dirt?

tubehead
07-09-2011, 10:06 PM
Yes those tires are getting filled. The large tires are about 3' high so I figured people would get stuck down in them. We had one guy run it today. He was on 37's but no lockers so he got stuck pretty easily. Should be fun when we get 2 rigs on course.

The entry form is being put up on www.boydcountyfair.com tonight. I was informed they will be paying back 80% of entry fees and giving trophys.

Just an update. We are now having a SXS class. So if your rig is broke and you have a SXS bring it on out.

I havent been back up to the fair grounds since we last worked on the course. I am going up tomorrow around noon to set the banners and cones. I really wish we had more large rocks but the course as is will put on a good show. The fair has already talked about adding more for next year.

How did it turn out? Any pictures?

tubehead

I didn't take any pictures. We ended up with 12 rigs show up. 8 in the 37" and under class and 4 in the 38"+ class. The drivers and the crowd really enjoyed the event. It started pouring the rain at about 3:15 and rained till 4. It was a monsoon! Which after the first round it had dried up pretty good. We ended up running everyone twice and taking the average time and picking the winner. I won the small tire class and Lee Adkins won the large tire class. I gave the newspaper reporter a ride for both of my runs. He really enjoyed it. There was a big article in the Ashland news paper, The Daily Independant. You could probably look on their website if you were interested in reading the story. All in all it was a good event, they are already talking about adding more for next year.
