Ideas on my rear bumper

I'm building a new rear bumper, similar to the one I have. My problem is the square stock I'm using is three inches and the clevis mounts are three inches. Mounting them through the bumper won't work unless I trim them a lot. I also want to use the bumper for an air tank also.

So I was thinking of welding the clevis mounts, and the receiver hitch to the bottom of the bumper. That would keep the bumper open for an air tank. Any other ideas????? I"m also going to trim the points off of the ends of the bumper too.

Instead of installing the clevis mounts vertically like evryone does, you could mount them horizontally plane in the center of the tube similar to how you have it laid out in the picture. Then you could weld it on both sides and keep it air tight for your air tank. I have seen a few guys mount them this way but never for that reason.

Notch them down to one inch square and drill a one inch through hole and weld them front and back sides. They will resemble a mushroom stem w/head.

I like that better than mounting them on the bottom. Who has weld on air fitting bungs????

Most of the clevis mounts are toward the center of the bumper, my feelings are they should be by the bumper mounts the bumper is 3/16th 3x3. What atre your thoughts???

I alighn mine with the frame so it is pulling were it is mounted.

Waiting for the bungs to get here then find some heavy wall tube for the swing out.

I was thinking about welding receiver hitch stock in corner to use as jack stands.

I got the air fitting bungs, the hitch welded on the the ends tacked on so I can cut the points off of the ends.

man that looks like alot of weight added to the rear of the rig.. i know Splattt and rear tire 35" and swing out mount and all want so make it bounce up and down when i get on it to get up a hill the spinal welds did crack once already and had to re weld it. and another mount to the cage to tie it in to help out the weight issue...

I did have to take it from the back of the tire tube over to the rear of the cage to help support it.

It is a little heavier than the other bumper, but I coated the gas cans so they don't have to be kept full to keep them from rusting. The mounts are bolted to the Matkins level III frame so they are not going anywhere.

I went with a square design so I could use angle iron welded to the bumper for extra support. I'm more of an old school kind of guy that likes the old school trail riding/ camping. The way we did it before all of the extreme stuff.:D

I 'wheeled a bunch in the mid 80's then got out of jeeps in favor of drag racing for 15 or 20 years. Getting back into 'wheeling now and boy has it changed. I have always felt that a moderate rig doing all that it can to tackle a moderate obstacle gives you the same thrill as an extreme rig conquering an extreme obstacle... just without the bragging rights maybe.

The rear bumper looks great and perfect for a CJ. The table idea worked out very well. If the bumper comes up missing don't look in Bellbrook for it because it won't be here on the back of another CJ..Seriously...no need to even check... :D

You are close enough I will keep an eye out:D I still need to slip the rack on, run electric and air.

I wonder if all the extreme stuff isn't causing the troubles that the trails are having. Sometime I'm going to take a road trip to see some of the old spots that have been closed ( legally you know).

The canopy part needs some fine tuning but will work fine.

The winch needs to be wired up and some sort of hook to fit into the rim of the spare tire to lift it up.
