IOK is planning the schedule for the 2012 season now. We are looking to add a 2nd endurance race to the schedule this year but need to get a better idea of what is going on out there. We are looking at an early spring (late April or early May) or early fall (late September).
We believe the grounds are setup pretty good for endurance racing. At last years Offroad Jamboree people could watch all of the action. Since then we have cut in a few new trails and have ideas on how to increase the length significantly.
So what is going on out there or what is your preference? Also, we are kicking around the idea of opening either a 2wd class, razor, or 4wheeler class. For those who went to the Offroad Jamboree what did you think about having the endurance race at night?
Let us know what you guys are thinking.

It depends what class you ran in.
Trail riders was more of a baja style competition with hill climbs, some obstacles, etc nothing too extreme. But enough for a good challenge. We try not to make to challenging because it is an endurance race, i.e. - how long will your vehicle last. We don't want you breaking your rig on the first lap but we also want to make you run. We did have a guy get some pretty serious damage to his cherokee jumping into the bowl at the base of the eliminator hill. I think he blew a tire and his axle broke off or something.
Unlimited class had a more challenging course. We ran cemetery hill, which has a knarly bank at the top and some tight trails to navigate to get out. We also incorporated the rock with this class as well. I think Todd or one of the Ultra buggy guys lost a tire and I recall someones brakes caught fire. There were a few roll overs as well.
You missed a good time if you weren't there.

Doesnt sound like the type of event I'd want to bring my tough truck too. Thats why I asked. Sounds like I need the tracker :)

A large portion of the guys I use to ride tube VW rails with have switched over to 2WD endurance racing.. would the 2WD class you're speaking of be Rangers and Toys or IRS unlimited buggys ?
I would try anything SxS oriented...it will be a winner.

I was at last years event. In my opinion, you or whomever runs the event, needs to set a schedule and stick to it. I noticed that the races started over an hour late and there was too much time between heats. I understand that this was the first time for this and there where probably some bugs that needed worked out.
Second, I think a buggy (like a VW rail) class and a side by side class need to be added.
Overall, last years event was pretty good and I think this years can be alot better with some work. :beers:

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get into as many of these as possible. I heard they were a blast from some of last year's participants.

I think that is all good feedback. I won't try to hide from it and I agree we did get a late start last year and there were some qwerks that need ironed out. We have plans in the works to expedite registration and too keep the racing moving at a steady pace. I am sure this year will start on time and that the racing will be steady. Unfortunately dust control always takes time and is a major issue and we are getting a few water lines installed to make it easier to control.
As far as the addition of the 2wd class that is still something we need to fully review and decide whether to introduce it this year or next. I will keep you posted if it happens. Whether it will be railbuggy's or rangers/yotas is to be determined. I would imagine it will get phased in starting with one class and then adding more over the years.

I would love to see more endurance racing also. Last year was fun to watch. The only suggestion I have is more class division. I remember there was a super charged buggy running with stock chassis rigs just because it was a "6 cylinder" class. Just doesn't make for good competition. Aside from that, look forward to it. Would like to race if it doesn't comflict with my ECORS schedule.
