View Full Version : My Place

I am curious if anyone would be interested in coming out to my place in KY sometime to wheel. I go often.
Some details. Its about 160 acres, I have a cabin, composting toilet, electric, no running water till weather stays warm then its very limited water, very hilly, mass trees, not much flat, the main trail to the top of the ridge is about 1/4 mile hill, not a lot of trails but I constantly work on that, there is a 2 mile loop around the ridge line with some off shoots. The trails were made for quads but now fit my VW rail buggy, not sure how a 4x4 would do because of the angles and trail width but I don't have a problem widening trails if need be. Due the the size of the hills I wouldn't want anyone without a roll cage on the trails. I have a waiver to be signed for anyone that comes (CMA). Ironically parking is limited due to not much flat and oh yeah you have to cross 2 creeks to get to the cabin. Its not that bad though, an eclipse did make it but it scraped a lot Thats probably to many details but anything you want to know just ask. Oh yeah my dogs are always with me so if you don't like dogs sorry. :beers:

Patrick45015
02-15-2012, 12:20 AM
Tons of small rocks, there are bigger rocks too. The creek is rocky and there are piles of rocks in places not sure if loggers piled them or what but its wasn't natural

No not from my place. I haven't actually seen any pipelines around there. Private property is on all sides of my property. Its 15 minutes east of Vanceburg. 3 turns off the AA. Thats the AA in the 2 pics up the river valley

Looks awesome... Can we camp over night?? Its kind of a long drive from Akron to not camp the night. I would bring my own tent or just sleep in the truck.
Patrick45015
02-16-2012, 10:06 AM
Yeah camping is fine. I have stove, microvewave, charcoal grill. So people can cook food. I have fridge but space is limited so I recommend bringing coolers. There is a decent store about 10 minutes away

Yeah thats mine on my ridge. I have not even sat in another side by side but this thing is bad ass. I have had VW powered rail buggys sine late 90s. This for sure blows them a way. I can fly through the woods and climb steeper hills. My buggys were really showing there limits on my property especially when the ground is wet. It looks small but its same wheel base as one of my buggys. It is narrower. 17 inches of front wheel travel and 18 rear. Power steering, 4 wheel disc brakes, its just great. I took it to the buggy shop down the street for the owner to look at. He was amazed he gave it a thumbs up in design

I'm getting ready to be a SxS owner and I would love to come give it a try some weekend.

Damn! That looks like a blast. The trails don’t look that narrow and all the choke points look to have multiple approach angles. Unfortunately I work a really crazy schedule and I am in the process of looking for another job (possibly in another country) so I can’t make any concrete plans for wheeling. :(
Anyway, was that basically a “loop” from and then back to your cabin?
(And I think I fixed the link so you can see my rig)
Patrick45015
04-09-2012, 12:19 PM
Yeah its a 2 mile loop around the property edge. There are other trails down to the creek and more trails being cleared. There may be couple problem spots for full size but nothing a chain saw can't fix

There are some pretty serious hills now. Most of the trails are old logging trails. Recently found several more that are over grown. Half of a hill trail I cut straight out of the woods. With all the leaves and everything it was like mulch. My rail buggy couldn't bite on it at all but the wildcat pulls it easily so it opens up new posibilities just takes time. Elavation change from top to bottom of some of the hills is around 500 feet so yeah its all steeper than it looks. The top is higher than the eiffel tower at kings island. Views are amazing.

Figured I will add a little update. Found a new logging trail from the bottom to the top. Had it going in one weekend. There were no large trees on it just saplings and sticker bushes. I was amazed to still find a full trail. It dropped into a ravine and the entrance grew a lot. I also found a couple flat spots in that area which is rare. I have been looking for the best spot to make a play area and thats it. Got a little loop around so far. This is prime trail cutting season for me so I will be hard at it doing what I can to add more trails. I will be doing more walking also to scout out trail options.
The Wildcat has been great. No comparison to my VW railbuggys. They are great for some places but not what I needed for my property. My trail options were already getting limited with them but with the Wildcat I have so much more. I had s string of bad luck with the rails breaking. The Wildcat has done good. So far broke an axle and bent a trailing arm. Not bad considering how I treat it. I started babying the buggys and kept breaking.
I dunno why but yellow jackets have been very bad this year. I have found at least 4 ground nests so far and been stung every damn time. I never notice them till I get stung
Still open for people to come check it out. Let me know and we can plan for a weekend :beers:

Yahoo says 106 miles from ciny about 2 hours. I live in Hamilton it takes me about 2 1/2 hours. The map directions say go 275 to 32 but I take the AA cause there are way to many lights around eastgate plus AA is better scenery

In case anyone wants to know a full size range rover came out to my place. I believe he said it was 73 inches wide. It was all stock with decent tires. He was able to make it up the hill and all the way around the loop. He didn't try the downhill on the other side. To get back into the creek he winched up an off camber. So it is possible for a full size to do at least some of the trails. He got a battle scar trying to stay out of the ruts going up hill. He didn't have a roll cage so I refused to ride with him. I've had to many close calls myself.

None of my friends have anything to wheel except my girlfriend's brother that has the range rover. You are welcome to come out anytime I go though

Well it took 4 years but I finally got someone else to bring a side by side to my cabin and check out my trails. Here is the review he posted on a forum
I went and rode today with Patrick at his place down a little past Ashland Ky. I was expecting to ride some little farm roads and never figured there would be much territory . Was I ever wrong. Patrick is a lucky man for sure to have that place to ride. I would guess he has 20 or more miles of trails on his 160 acres . And what made it fun was the diversity of the trails, we started out riding the outer rim around the property , these trails on a scale of 1 to 5 one being the easiest, these outer trails would be a 2 or 3 . For those people that like to take in a good view but don't won't to ride much of a challenge these are the trails for you. But a great deal of his trails are 4 to 5's .And that's the way I like it. One of the hills I remember was a winding 300 foot trail to the top. I was in 4wd and remember those rocktains digging most of the way to the top of about half that trail. I don't see that much. I have rode the Hatfield trails and Black mountain , knock county system , Rush and Windrock and many others , I can say I enjoyed this trail as much as any of the others I rode and more than most. If you ever get a opportunity I would suggest hooking up with him and riding his trail system, you sure won't regret it. I'm going to try to hook up with him at at least one more time this year. Thanks Patrick for the invite.
By down past Ashland he means north lol

That's the weekend before a Windrock trip a bunch of us are going on, lot of us poor folks cant afford 2 weekends in a row, would like to check your place out at some point. Sounds like a cool place to get out and wheel.

Ok I understand. I had nothing to with picking the date. My girlfriend and her friend schedule their lives way in advance and that's only weekend they could both agree on.
I go a lot so if some weekend suits anyone we can plan it
