whats everyones opinion on wheel adapters? I am thinking about buying a new rear axle and it is 5 on 5.5. all my wheels are 5 on 4.5. just wondering if it is worth it

they are safe, i used to use wheel spacers, 4" ones in fact, on the back of my last jeep...

problem is the adapters will make you wider just like a spacer, by at least an inch or so each side.

that isn't bad in my book, I want to be a little wider anyway. Do you sell adapters mike?

You can get them at www.aimind.com

Just make sure you re-torque them after an initial 100 miles or so. Then check them every so often afterwards. Aluminum will expand and contract and loosen up the lug nuts, and since you will have 10 per wheel now it will be important.

I don't carry them, sorry.

I almost think for that price I will get the Super 88 kit for it. I was looking at this site just for ideas... google

I have welded up the holes before and put a new bolt pattern in the axle shaft before but would not be comfortable doing that on a daily driver. I have wheel spacers on the truggy. 3.5'' in the front and 2'' in the rear and run them on the mustang too! Be sure to recheck the torque and use locktite.

ran them on all four corners of my camaro to fit the ZR1 rims , all of them were 2" . I'm going to run them on the Jeep as soon as I find a good deal on a set.\
What axle are you looking at putting under your XJ that's 5 on 5.5 ?

ok ! most people use the 8.8 out of an explorer for a jeep swap ! 5 on 4.5 and 31 spline shafts.

Yeah this one came from a bronco so it threw me off a little. but it is full width or darn close

are you going to run spacers on the front ? All of the coversion adapters that I have seen give you at least 1.25" width , these on a full width in the rear are going to be much wider then the D30 in the front . 3"-4" spacers on a D30 is going to put a heck of a lot of stress on your ball joints and unit bearings.

I didn't plan to run spacers on the d30. I am going to beat it how it is and see how long it lasts. I plan to pick up a 44 or 60 for the front sometime next year and get it ready for the next time it goes under the knife

Sounds good, I am now trying to decide if I want a 14b or not

14 bolts are tough. Only problem is the pumpkin diameter. With a grinder and a welder you can clearance it and put disc brakes on it and wheel.

does the 1-1.5 inches really make that much difference? I never once had the lip on my 14b keep me from making an obstacle.

Ask Brody about it. In west virginia he and pat had one hell of a time with their rear diffs hanging them up. Depends on the terrain and the drivers ability I suppose. I love the 14 bolt for its strength!

This one comes with disks already and a lincon locker(dont know crap about them) for a cheap price. I plan to take about an inch off the bottom and lose the bottom bolt. I figure for what I lose in clearence I gain in strength and width

Sounds like an excellent plan to me! Build it!

yeah I thought it was the car thing but the welder works too. I had planned to weld it up anyway so if its already done it just saves me time. The guy has a 44 forsale too that I am trying to get jacob to buy. He doesn't want to separate them yet. The price is right but I have no use for a passenger side drop
