...for ten over on Beechmont, not really noteworthy.

What WAS noteworthy was that he actually asked if I knew what my GVWR was, what that allowed as to lift height, and where that was to be measured.

Fortunately, I do. 4,850lbs; 27" front, 29" rear; measured to the stock bumper, unless the bumper has been modified or moved, then measured to the framerail.

The only part I'm not sure of is whether the XJ is a "passenger vehicle" or "other vehicle," because the law itself is really unclear. But since he asked about GVWR, he was obviously giving me the benefit of that doubt.

Anyway, I think he was so impressed that I knew the law, that not only did he not bother to measure the XJ, but he let me off with a warning on the speed, too...

Ohio is better than some places, worse than others. Every time you deal with stupidity here, just think "At least I'm not in California!"

Right, it was Highway, not Union Twp.

I was just impressed that he knew the law, and respectfullly agreed that I was in compliance.

I've had UT write me up for reck-op after I PASSED a breath-test leaving Mt Carmel Pub, because I barked the tires leaving the lot. Light rig on lockers will do that...

I just went out and checked mine 4600lb GVW Tj bumpers are good 26 lowest in the front and 25 lowest in the rear. Is there anything else the Cops get dumb about around here?

What does that entail?

The e brake check is the only thing that bothers me, is because I never use mine so they rust up.

BlackCJ

I think the e-brake requirement is kind of dumb, especially with a standard transmission. I would never consider using my foot-operated PARKING brake in an emergency situation.

Ew. That sounds bad. I know my rig is safe, but I can only imagine what the random casual observer might think.

Google doesn't find anything, where did you hear this?

Trailer wouldn't do it, XJ and Camry are slush boxes so I don't use the parking brake. The CJ the parking break never held so it was never used so I keep a wheel chock in it. Would that pass as a parking brake???

They are "state highway patrol", not crime fighters! Lol!

Actually that has changed over the past couple of years. While they aren't there to investigate house burglaries and muggings their agenda has shifted considerably.

We had a state trooper come to work to talk about the new *677 plan that has been implemented recently. He stated that 3yrs ao they did 70/30 traffic/crime and now they have completely flipped that to 70/30 crime/ traffic.
He goes around to companies and talks to CDL drivers wanting them to be aware and report suspicious activity. They want the CDL drivers to use the *677 to help fight drug/ human trafficking.

There again, they want truck drivers to do their jobs!

We had a SHP pull over one of our back hoes here in the city. He claimed he could not see his slow moving vehicle triangle. Really? I have noticed them patrolling rt. 4 in Hamilton a lot here lately.

We've always had them here? Highway patrol sets up checkpoints every month or so. I just do an illegal u turn to avoid them like everyone else. Only done one twice, ticketed for dumb **** both times.

What does that entail?

http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/4501%3A2-1

Sections on steering, tires, wheels, brakes, lighting, turn signals, glass, seatbelts, plates, exhaust, mirror, wipers, horn, hazards, body, and fuel system.

None of that was there a few years ago, when I went over the code to make sure the XJ was legal. Ish.

Looks like it was all added as of June of '11.

 I wonder if they can still make me go through the inspection with Arizona license plates. I don't think they can do anything, even if they find something they don't like.

Many years ago I got pulled over and my CJ had Florida plates on it. He said if I was living here or had a job I had 6 months to get Ohio plates. So even with out of state plates, they can find something.

I'm active duty military, so those requirements don't apply to me. I'm sure they can give me a ticket for something if they really want to though.

FYI...If you are traveling Rt. 4 in Hamilton, look out. There has been a SHP righting tickets like crazy for the past few weeks. Today, there is an unmarked state boy in a silver Dodge Durango patrolling. I seen him have 7 different vehicles pulled over in the course of an hour today!!!
