Not a guru, but I got a 99 vortec run on a pieced together propane set up. I had trouble starting mine the first time because the throttle plate was closed too much and wouldn't let enough vacume through to suck in the propane. I opened it up just alittle and VROOOM VROOM! You might try that, and if its a used set up it could have a dried out diaphram...
|
the setup is freshly rebuilt (supposedly). Got it from Roy, out of canada, GotPropane.
I can't figure it out. Today i go out, fired it up, it runs great, damn near idles. I shut it down, and can't get it to restart, barely even chokes. I open the flies all the way up to clean it out, and it farts a little, then thats it. It's like the longer it sits, the better it does. Almost like its getting too much pane or something. I need a propane genius to pay me a visit. |
Have you tried a diffrent tank? Sounds funny, but mine would start real hard with a certain tank, then when I switched it'd start easy again. And thats all I got, good luck!
|
ive tried 4 different tanks... as i had a fear that propane might be bad... it doesn't go bad i later found out.
|
double check your solinoid is working and maybe pull the top of the carb off and clean the rubber piece ontop. Then check the nob under the bowl to see if on lean or rich. There is only 3 setting on mine. Other than that, it's pretty strait forward, timing maybe?

Is your regulator icing up???
Check for a rats nest from sitting to long. http://www.impco-beru.nl/IMPCO%20Training%20Manual.pdf |
Just read through the pirate thread again. You said the longer it sits the easier it seems to try to start, and that only the front 4 cyl seem to be firing. That sounds like you aren't getting enough fuel. Have you checked for vacume leaks? From what I understand a propane system works on pressure from the tank, and vacume from the motor. If the tank is full it has pressure. If there is a leak it might not have enough vacume to open the lock off valve all the way, or even open the diaphram in the mixer.
|
The reg is not icing up, not letting it run that long. All parts have had a fresh rebuild on them... supposedly...
you coming down sunday to chase my gremlins away? |
It hits on all 8 now. I don't know where i would have a vacuum leak from, everything is plugged or being used... i hate this ****.

Hey Mike. Check out the link I posted on my last post. It help me out alot when I tuned my setup. |
ok... my mixer is an ohg tho... no differences really?
|
wiring sucks... that is all for now.
|
so is it running fine yet, i just got all my propane lined out, THE ****S GREAT!!!
|
Your rig is sickening Mike. Nice work as always!
|
kinda running, not out of the shop yet tho. still finishing up wiring, etc... and have this damn propane issue i'm trying to figure out...
details of it in this pirate thread... http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=804097 Thanks Jeff, can't wait to hit the trails with you again. |
Rig is coming along, dealing with a propane gremlin. Figured one out and still chasing another. First one was simple, had to route my heater hoses differently. Had the hoses both pushing into the regulator. hard to get flow that way.
So, DO NOT do it like this: http://www.sigmamotorsports.com/Imag...6buggy_921.jpg Do it like this: http://www.sigmamotorsports.com/Imag...6buggy_914.jpg The whole propane issue can be followed here if yer interested at all or have any input. My next step is to tear into the mixer, look for any issue. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=804097 Got my wiring all buttoned down, and except for replacing one bulb in a gauge, it's 100% and i can put my side panels on. Props to seabass, the man rules and saved me an extra week of work im sure... http://www.sigmamotorsports.com/Imag...6buggy_919.jpg http://www.sigmamotorsports.com/Imag...6buggy_920.jpg Coming right along, put some more nitrogen in the shocks, get exhaust done, finish my propane suckiness, and that should just about do it. I actually drove it in the other night, 2 feet forward and 2 feet in reverse, just to make sure the trans and tcase actually worked... it was exhilarating to say the least! |
Hows the hydro steer?
|
You felt it, in fact you were the first to turn the wheels since the bleeding. I can steer it with half a finger, it's amazing.
|
I don't want to rain on your parade but make sure that you put some dielectric grease on all of your connections. I will suck to work on electrically but it may help connection issues later down the road.
But your rig looks great!!!!!!!! |
Yea, make sure you put some "boat" on the connections........

:D :D :D X2. |
yes, lots of boat, indeed.

Well, I'm down to buttoning up all the loose ends. Still have my propane issue, but i'm closer to solving it...
For the most part the rig is done, need to get exhaust, which will happen on weds or thurs this week. I will have a crossover pipe to the driver side, then 3 inch all the way back. going to have a hard time fitting any kind of muffler in there, wish me luck. All fluids are finalized, and i have driven it around the yard and house about a half hour, waiting for something to rattle off or blow up or break. Rather it happen there, for sure. I think I'm going to regret not putting in a sway bar at build time, cuz i'm pretty sure im gonna be adding one. ***** has got some insane scary body roll... thank god for my silly amount of unsprung weight. I believe the rig was named today... I'm not big on naming my rigs, but it does make it easier to refer to them i guess. I never named this one, as you hate to have it not live up to a name, etc... Besides, the damn thing took so long to build, i probably would have forgotten the name years ago... Anyway, i posted a pic of bogger tracks on my concrete, as proof of it having left the shop under its own power. Of course everyone cried bull****, etc. And YJnate says that the rig is kinda like The Yeti. Everyone talks about it, but not many have ever seen it in person. Some have caught a glimpse of it, or seen proof of it, like a track or something, etc. The Yeti is also thought to be big, cumbersome, huge feet, i'm sure it smells, etc... So, that describes this rig perfectly at this point... So from this point on, it will be The Yeti. Anybody wanna go wheeling? |
now the big question ....... is it going to be in Trenton on Sat. ????? we have no Yeti laws to my knowledge :beers:
