nah, there is nothing really to clear, unless you are running wheel brakes. even then i have seen it done with 17" wheels.

my hubs will be flipped, and i am running 16.5" hummer wheels.

mckeddie 02-07-2008 09:25 PM

stock hummer width, with centers he made. the center of the wheel is 3" front lip of the wheel. i lied, his hubs are flipped out. he backspaced them to where there was about an inch of clearance to the drive flange (width of drive flange will be the same no matter which way you flip the hub, that will be your problem with width i think. he is exactly 7'6" wide or 92" for the mathematically challenged.

where did you get your rockwells? i know of a set for sale that are basically identical to your specs, just wondering if they were the same ones or not.

Rockwells from the 50's to 90's are the same maybe even earlier and later. I bought 4 trucks within the last 2 years and have a few now.

mckeddie 02-07-2008 10:09 PM

i forgot to mention, the reason he didn't end up flipping his in, is because of clearance issues with his airshocks. his front tubework was already done from when he had my 60's under it, and he didn't want to have to redo it all to make new upper mounts.

Sizing up the length of the rig over the weekend and looks like the rear doors may have to go unless I decide to deal with a 138" wheel base length! Got the radiator mounts mocked up, 2nd and 3rd row seating out and running boards off. Pics. look great but I need to size them up in order to post em!

You are killing me Scott just get the pics on here.

What was the old Truggy's wheelbase? with the 44's or so wouldn't you want to have a wheelbase more like 108"-110"?

94Dodge Truggy 02-12-2008 07:43 AM

Old truggy was 118''. I do not want anything shorter than that. Climbing cliffs is what I do best. Rock crawling and mudding are 2nd on the list and at 118'' that was not a problem. If I am 130'' or so the good thing is that my driveshafts will bew tucked up under the chassis and not vulnerable and I will have a low center of gravity.

RuffedUpXJ 02-12-2008 12:44 PM

OK I got ya I was sure if you wanted a Jeep like wheelbase, because you are using the Durango body. what is the stock wheel base for the Durango? Something around 120? So a little stretch front and back will make that thing look mean

94Dodge Truggy 02-12-2008 12:51 PM

Stock durango wheelbase is 115''. If I want to keep the 4 doors it may be too long! Not sure yet.

Redriverranger 02-12-2008 07:56 PM

My ranger is 125" and I like it for most things, if that means anything.
