Thanksgiving Weekend Options

For those interested in going wheeling the weekend after Thanksgiving, here is some info about where we are looking at going. Our plans right now are to leave early Saturday morning, and come home Sunday afternoon or evening, depending on where we go. I think the first two are out only due to the time they close. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions please add them to the thread.

Badlands
Wheeling from 9am to 5pm
$30 per person for 2 day pass
$5 per passenger
We can't go to Badlands due to the no alcohol policy this would eliminate half of the people that mentioned about going (Bob and Sarge) :D :D
Big Rock
Wheeling from 9am to 5pm
$20 for Driver and one passenger

Haspin
Wheeling from 6am to 9pm
$15 per person

Slade
Unlimited Wheeling
Free

We go to Slade every Thanksgiving and stay at Lil' Abners
If you guys plan on staying there, I would suggest you call them soon. They was getting full.
Last year we had 22 rigs I believe
Doesn't mean you have to ride with a group that large.
You are more than welcome to get in line but, It does mean you will not get much sleep, for the neighborhood is drunk friday and saturday.........

*Bob Dylan voice* At Haspin anything's legal, as long as ya don't get caught.

Yeah, we always wheel late into the night. Last time I was there a few months ago the old guy at the front desk said nobody was allowed to leave the campground after entering after 10:00 IIRC, but he said if ya camp anywhere else you could drive till whenever. They were long gone @ 10:00 though, & we had no trouble making a few trips that night. Getting lost in the woods @ 2am wasn't that fun though, lol, everything looks the same... Finally found a trail back towards the main trail though. When night wheelign we always stay in the back of Haspin away from the main trails, so I doubt they'd even know you were out unless you had a loud exhaust.

lost at Haspin... now that is funny. Like getting lost at your house.

94Dodge Truggy 11-07-2007 11:23 AM

The old guy at the front desk at haspin is Pete and as long as you are not a main trail wheeler in the front gate area you will be fine wheeling all night till the sun comes up. :) I have been lost late at night (few beeeveerages may be the problem) at haspin before on a trail that I swear loops around back to itself. Hit it 3 times till I got dizzy and the trail was a nasty one to complete at that! The group made it back finally but a radiator, clutch, winch and front inner axle shaft were lost by a few in the group when it was all said and done! :D

carwash 11-07-2007 11:35 AM

how surprising... truggy lost at haspin...

I remember that night, We made several laps around and around. Stall had a blast on four wheelers or on my doors. :D

Later,
Shane

I've been lost at Haspin...But then again I've been lost in my house too..And it's really small..

Should we just hit Slade then and not even try Haspin? I have two votes for the more challenging/variety terrain of Slade. Although I'm thinkin this is gonna be cold camping...

94Dodge Truggy 11-07-2007 04:07 PM

Slade sounds nice!

fredrader 11-07-2007 06:39 PM

Is anyone able to post up some good directions to Slade???

So it looks like we have 5 votes to go to Slade, does anybody object? If we go are we camping where we camped in Sept? When do we want to leave, Friday afternoon or Saturday morning early?

I'd like to get it decided, since I leave town on Saturday and won't be back until the day before Thanksgiving. Knowing how this group takes its time making decisions :p , I know I'm asking a lot. :D :D

Purely out of curiosity....Where/what is Lil' Abners? I'm assuming this isn't the same place we camped when we were there over Labor Day. But I've been wrong before.

carwash 11-07-2007 08:46 PM

lil abners is a motel. you pass it on the way, right after you get off the bluegrass parkway. it's about 10 minutes from the trailhead where everyone usually camps.

I will be camping on the right side of the beginning of the trail head.

sarge 11-08-2007 12:03 AM

count me out for what ever trip is planned . I will be making one last trip with the Jeep this year and I'm either going to Kevin Carders in Mt. Vernon KY and wheel with him at the new 909 ??? or I got some info on a place in Pickett Co. Tenn. ( which is a stones throw from where my boat is ) . The only reason I get to make that trip is , I have to go down and winterize my boat anyway.
I'm tapped out and Christmas is around the corner

AFTERSHOCK151 11-08-2007 01:13 PM

Comeon Sarge I figured we would go to Haspin after Thanksgiving, I'll tow one of the other Jeeps (Steve or John) and you can charge them admission to stay in the mobile Sheraton. Most of the guys I race with are going to Haspin then, just a thought but if your interested we need to get our ducks in a row.

We're at Lil' Abners on Saturday night. I said I was with the "Jeep people" coming in so I hope it's ok to crash the party there. :D Something about keeping us all close together so I translated that to mean "drinking; no sleeping".
