Diesel question?
 

Looking for somebody inside the 275 loop to put my 2000 SD Ford on a scanner and see if I have some stored codes from a intermittent " service engine soon " light.

Under normal throttle load on occasion the truck acts like it has lost four injectors all at once....at the very same time the SES light comes. Truck will run bad for maybe 2-4 seconds then go back to running fine... Light stays on till I shut the ignition off then clears when I restart. Seems like a sensor or harness problem but don't want to just start tossing parts at this thing.

Since the 7.3 PSD is not OBD-II hand held scan tool compatible I'll need a shop to read the computer.

The 7.3's are known to have harness issues in the valve covers. This may be your problem.

Yes what truggy said. so its an OBS powerstoke? On my late 99 it wasn't hard to get the valve covers of and replace my glow plugs. And my injectors were right there actually had to pull one out easy peasy. I'd try pulling the covers of and pay special attention to where the harness comes into the valve cover that's where wires seem to chaff and what not.

I think it might be the CPS...I had one go out like 10 years and this acted the same...from what I remember:o

I've also heard that the injector harness plugs can come loose..that will be my next "guess".

2000 models have a obd 2 sensor. Could be. I forgot that try CPS. Use a black one of you have it heard their better

Obd isn't a sensor, it's the connector to the vehicles ECM, PCM, BCM etc. so that an external computer can communicate.

$100 generic scanners don't have the capabilities of true diagnostics on anything. They are more of a 'point in the general direction'

A buzz test comes to mind, but I would suspect valve cover harnesses. :thumbup:

I meant port.sorry was a long day at work. Lol. Yes the cheap scanners aren't that great. If you could find someone with an auto enginuity with the ford bundle that'd be the bees knees. If you don't have access to a scanner call preble diesel or warren county diesel.

Many guys will pull the valve covers, and stuff a quarter behind the injector harness plug under the cover. Search "50 cent mod" on any power stroke forum to see what it is exactly. common problem on these trucks.
