Tow rigs.
 
For those who tow when they go to wheel.

-Take care of your ****! Don't just park it between rides and let it sit. That is the worst thing you can do. Upkeep your maintenance and don't neglect your rig.-

I just put a new tune in my 7.3 and I'm super happy! Vroom!

Nothing really happened. I was just changing brake pads and looking at the rust on my truck and thinking that a lot of it could have been prevented if it had been addressed sooner.

i try to drive mine once every few weeks to keep it fresh,more so in the winter as the wife gets my DD jeep in the snow.

Seriously, though... I don't really think it was the sitting. I got it second-hand after a paving company. I'm sure they used it to spread salt...

Sitting didn't help, but short of stripping the entire thing down to bare metal, I don't think you were gonna stop it.

Ford designed areas in the 7.3 years that look as though they wanted them to rust? I don't know what's worse the doors that hold water or the damn rear inner fenders that have stiffiner ribs formed into them that trap wet road debris and rot the bed sides off.

I wish I knew more about body work. I'm going to flatbed it later this year.

The tune makes it really come to life. Not sure about a drag race, but it is about 200 ft lb more than before @ 2500rpm.

I always had my eye out for a utility bed, with all the toolboxes. Seemed ideal for a tow rig...

The same goes for your off-road rig and trailer. Everything should be checked between trips. Don't be that guy...

Well put Kevin... I check over my equipment several times till I realize I have a case of OCD setting in.... He'll I even jack up each individual wheel on my trailer and tow rig looking for any nails, screws, and so on..even check for uneven tire wear or bubbles/ broke belts in tires. Also check air pressure to make sure all tires are the same and brakes are adjusted the same.

My tow rig was also my daily driver for years, but now that it is not I try to drive it to work at least every other week. I always hook up my trailer a day or two before a trip and make sure the brakes and lights are working, check the air pressure in the tires (including the spares!), and usually at least drive it around a little. Can't believe the number of people that never check the air pressure in their trailer tires unless it is visibly flat, and even then it just gets air put back in until it "looks like enough".

The off-road rig always gets "nut and bolted" before a trip meaning I crawl underneath with a set of wrenches and make sure everything is tight. Of course it gets the routine fluid checks and try to drive it around the neighborhood a little. Definitely don't want to be "that guy" who pulls into the parking lot in the morning and proceeds to swap out an alternator that went bad during last month's trip....I'm not making this up either.

we all know "that Guy" spent the first two hours at the badlands last weekend working on a buddies truck, and it seems to be getting to be the Norm on every trip.
