Dirty Turtle Day Trip, Sunday May 7th

Nothing hard core, just a fun day in the woods. Looking at 6-8 rigs currently.

We can meet at the rest stop and convoy down, if there's interest...

I am looking at going probably Saturday

Good deal. You need to see how these boggers work when they're not bolted to a school bus...

They worked fantastic bolted to the cool bus

Hmmm...I may be able to...will have to see how the transmission replacement on a 2001 Nissan Maxima goes Saturday. Never been to Dirty Turtle...Have an address? Or what time you are meeting on Sunday to go?

It's 93 Bucks Run Rd, Bedford, KY 40006. Just past Carrolton.

It's not huge, only 270 acres. But it's well laid out, and there's a good variety of stuff. You'd probably be bored most of the day in your CJ, but there are a few stupid-steep hillclimbs that'll test your nerve as much as your rig, and bounty hills built for the rock bouncers. The rest of us will just watch...

But... Didn't you just drag home a more mild TJ? That would be perfect for this trip, sorta back to basics wheeling.

Either way, I think we're meeting down there about 930, so if we rendezvous at the rest stop in Union, it'd be about 830...

FYI, Tony, they just announced a Mud Bog for that Saturday. I have no idea how big a crowd that will bring...

The terrain really reminds me of Haspin. DTOR is smaller than Haspin but a much nicer atmosphere.

I still have to fix my power steering leak and instal my rock rings. If I can get that done soon I may be able to go. Also depends on the nissan like my dad said.

I called... they said it's a good group but typically isn't too crowded

Getting close! It'll probably be muddy, but it looks like the rain will stop just in time.

We are meeting at the Union rest stop about 8 or 815. If we're back on the road by 830, that should put us at DTOR by 930.

Just a reminder, DTOR does have their little general store with snacks n such, but I don't think they've got much that would qualify as lunch. So bring your own...

Looks like:
Me
Tony
Nick Lambert
Tom Laine
Adam Kuyk
Sam Strak
And maybe the Smiths, all from CORE.
Then Jacob, Eric, Clifford and Steven from Tristate.

Should be great!

I'm looking at going Saturday for the mud races and to play a little

They just cancelled the mud bog, due to excess, um, mud...

jeepmanjeff 05-06-2017 12:58 PM

It really wasn't bad. Tony found a mud hole, of course, but I finished the day with clean paint still showing on all four wheels.

Lots of carnage, not many pics. I'll try n crosspost what I can.

Last two...

WrenchMonkey 05-09-2017 01:09 AM

That last one was a Ford Escape, still with the 30-day tag on it. He'd apparently been stuck on the perimeter trail for three hours (!) until we happened along and rescued him.

Total attendance was nine rigs: Three ZJs, two JKs, two XJs, a TJ and one token Yota. Carnage on the day was two driveshafts, one tire, one wet distributor, and a pretzeled track bar.

My air compressor quit working when we needed it, but came back to life this morning, so I don't know if that counts.

Yes, I survived another trip with my 37" Boggers on my locked Dana 30, without issue...
