Good press

There will be an article out on/in Associated Press this weekend discuss Ohio land issues. Mainly the fact that there are no off road area in the state of Ohio.

I was contacted and interviewed by a reporter about this article and will be referenced as an average off-road guy, with mention of CORE.

If you go online and search Associated Press Off Roading you can find the article.

A link will be added once it is located.

Sounds like Ohio wants to keep some of us off roaders in state...

Well, they sure aren't making it very easy...

Nice job "Average Off-Roader."

Can't wait to read it.

:beers:

Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing the article. Thanks!

It was nice back in the day when you could drive 45 minutes, hit some trails, have a good time and be home.
I do hope this turn out for the best, but this state puts the major suck on trail riding.

Even the atv trails are off limits to my Polaris Ranger since it is wider then 50 inches.

SixFtUnd 03-27-2009 09:17 PM

yeah I would get out alot if there was somewhere close

Whatever contact info the reporter found for me still had me listed as the president.

Maybe its just me, but I think you poorly chose your words

""The majority of what we do is climbing rocks, hillsides, mountains," he said Friday. "It's something that really provides an adrenaline rush.""

That makes it sound like all offroaders are just out to rip up the landscape simply for an adrenaline rush. This is exactly the stereotype the public has about offroad enthusiasts. And its a negative stereotype.

Myself and many of my friends find the greater joy of 4wheeling is to be out in the wild, with family and friends, enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. Respecting the landscape and the natural beauty of the outdoors. Not just "climbing mountains".

Is it just me? I sure hope not.

GPER 03-28-2009 08:22 PM

It is about the scenery you enjoy, not the miles you cover.:D

SixFtUnd 03-28-2009 11:10 PM

I have heard recently that The Ohio DNR is in a MAJOR budget crunch, as in they aren't sure how they're gonna keep state parks open, etc. This may be a good point to step in and show them how they can open the lands to dual-use or certain sections or areas for off-road recreation.

I think you may have misunderstood my statement, I also noted that we pack out more than we pack in; that we utilize established trails and do not disturb the woods or the wildlife. Not all of my comments were used...

GPER 03-29-2009 06:37 AM

As clubs we need to step up and volunteer whatever means we have to help them out. That would at least get our foot in the door and we need to do it before the Sierra Club does it and shuts the door on it.

tjjeepjeep 03-29-2009 11:07 AM

Looks like we may have missed the first round of their public meetings. I'm leaving a message for the Office of Trails, and I'll keep everyone posted if I find out anything.

Lisa, you are a trooper and if you would please. Let them know that ALL the clubs are willing to help them in whatever ways we can.

OK, I see. Its a shame they diddnt put the rest of it in there.

SixFtUnd 03-29-2009 11:21 PM

maybe we will get lucky and get somewhere good close to home to go

blazerbrad 03-30-2009 12:48 PM

Here's a link on my club's site talking about the ODNR. Again, we also work closely with OMTA (Ohio Motorized Trails Association) which is the non-profit organization spear-heading the effor to get trails in Ohio. Hint, hint, hint...if you are interested in this then it would be worth it to maybe join OMTA either as a club and/or individually. All of the money goes to this type of work.

Thanks blazerbrad.

GPER 03-30-2009 07:15 PM

I'm just wondering if they think a rock crawling course is what we want and think about the expense of that. I would be happier then a hoot owl to have access to just some fire roads. I would be more then happy to help them maintain them also.

Doubt it....everyone around here has the "not in my backyard" mentality.
