Suspension seats good/bad
I am looking for opinions on suspension seats. I had some Empi race trim seats in a baja bug of mine just sitting behind the shop doing nothing,so I decided to put them in the Jeep. My jeep is still driven almost everyday, I don't really care for these seats in the Jeep with the height of the bolster, making it a little hard to get in and out(read vertically challenged). Does anybody have the recliner style seats and if so how do you like them.

I got the Hunsaker reclining ones... Sykro, I think... (their cust. service was horrible, and they charged my credit card without sending the seats... I had to call and ask wtf?) got them years ago, still haven't installed... and after I got them, I got a bunch of "Why'd ya buy those?" from several people I respect... well, they were relatively inexpensive and once in the (running) Jeep, I could be sitting on barbed wire and be happy... :D
Let me know if you wanted to see them... or whatever. You're welcome to swing by Milford. Corbeau, MasterCraft, PRP, Beard (I think)... all make some top quality seats... it just becomes a little more limiting if you desire the recliner version... Carwash's build thread has some good images of his fixed back PRP seats... nice. |

These seats are PRP brand. I seem to remember ordering them with the extra width option. They have been good for me, though I haven't used them as much as many others on this board have used their vehicles. These are cloth seats, but they do dry out pretty quick if they get wet. If you are near Middletown and would like to try them for comfort, let me know.

my prp's are so comfy i can fall asleep in them...
fixed back, and and i got two of them in extra wide, cuz im a fatass. mine are the comp seats, so they have very high sides, which is ok for my rig, but would suck if you had to climb over them to get out of a cj etc... |
Smittybuilt reclining seats have saved my back! It is like buying a good brand of shoes if you are a runner. Well worth the $!!! I have blown out 2 fox coilover shock and broken a mid spring on a rear coilover also in the same year. Lots of rough wheeling! Seats are still going on strong and they dry out quick from being soaked!

next build get the seats last so this does not happen again |
When I had a rig it had Corbeau Ultra SS's , they are back savers.
I always thought that good front/side bolstering was one of the top reasons to buy a suspension seat, I'd deal with it being difficult to get in and out of if I felt "part" of the rig once I was belted in. Jeff |
I have Beard's (RedArt) with neoprene fabric and love them. They are very comfortable and the neoprene fabric stops the "wet butt" of an open Jeep in bad weather.
Would do it again in a heartbeat. |
Thanks for all the reply's. I think I will leave these in for awhile and see if I can get use to them. They feel good when your in them its just the in-n-out part. We are going to Redbird this weekend so we'll see.

I have a set of PRPs in my truck. They are "kinda" hard to get in and out of but once settled in, they are fantastic! I can get in my truck and drive 8hrs and not feel tired worn out at the end of the drive. Done several trips from here to NC with out any issues. I am very happy with them and wouldnt think twice about getting them again.
