cat, converter? had a ford truck do this same thing, ran great except for a certain rpm, it wouldnt do anything, but if you got past it, or before the rpms it ran fine

humpy 11-10-2010 12:20 PM

sometimes with obdI you can get in your book and there will be 2 pins you can cross on the plug with a paper clip or jumper wire and it will make your service light flash a certain pattern when you turn they key on and that pattern will be in defined in your book (haynes)...hope this helps..

I was also thinking cat. converter after the fuel filter struck out... I believe that we had to drill holes into one on an historic road-trip down to the Gorge.... was a Ranger towing a Zuk.

hotrod 11-10-2010 07:03 PM

unbolted exhaust before cat... and.... still same thing. :(
also bought a new dist. cap and rotor button and that didnt help either.
noticed that the dist. looked retarded.. ;) so took it loose and forked around with it a bit. got a little better but went up to about 4100 rpm b4 it starts its s41t

**Also, if you mash the skinny pedal from idle it stumbles over itself, clears up about 1300 then starts to its normal bull-snot at 3800

im going to buy a chiltons i guess, insted of throwing parts at it

Does it happen anytime, or only when warmed up? Wondering about the o2 sensor.

hotrod 11-11-2010 05:52 PM

ok cool thanks also found online it might be a maf sensor

flatlander757 11-12-2010 06:57 PM

Have you replaced the crankshaft sensor? Or inspected the flywheel/trigger wheel/whatever it reads off of? If there is a chipped tooth or something that could screw it all up. If it's a cheap part, may be worth getting just to eliminate another "possibility" :beers:

hotrod 11-12-2010 11:24 PM

figured it out! Dirty maf sensor took it off strayed some cleaner on it and it runs amazing pulls thru all the gears like it should now i can start playin with it i think i need some 31s :-) haha

itbrokeagain 11-13-2010 03:27 PM

I had an 86 hardbody that was a piece of crap. I wish I had never gotten rid of that truck. Had 35s with no lift. Lots and lots and lots of trimming
