help...im stuck
Okay so driving home today i get Death Wobble twice. Both after hitting a bump in the road (on 75). when i get home i checked everything all bolts are torqued, crawled under it had Mandi cycle the steering nothing is shifting that shouldnt be...im stumped. Tires are balanced...i do have a small shimmy from 55-60 its starting to make me want to get rid of the JK. Anybody have any ideas

Alignment. I think its max. toe in and min. caster within the factory specs. Also look for worn out bushings, tie rod ends, wheel bearings. Good luck!
just had the alignment done last week back to spec, bushing all look good and bearings are still good. Scott looked all over them. this thing is killing me..lol
Does it have a steering stabilizer on it? I had death wobble on mine that started at about 25mph, it was BAD. I balanced my 36" tires and added a steering stabilizer and that took care of the wobble.
Mine is not a DD but I have tested it up 55mph and no wobble. Just a thought.... |
bumps causing wobble for me have indicated a bad trackbar (if that's what it's called - the bar from the frame to the axle). Those bushings wear out quick & once they're bad the axle can jump all over & scare the crap out of ya. Get a prybar & pry on all your joints in the front end - if any move at all they're bad.
Ive pryed on them and they look okay.....i have a duel steering stabilizer everything looks to be okay... Im going to put the Swampers on it today and see if i just have bad tires or something
I had the same thing on my Jk....It was caster angle..i had the lower control arms ecentric max out...still dw. torch out the ecentric openning alittle..it helped but still dw...Installed adustable lower control arms set the right caster no problems in two years.
How long did you set up your lower control arms? and what was your caster angle?
I don't remember the lenth of the arms and I'm running a different set up now
but this link should answer all you questions http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...-end-alignment |
My Tj had it real bad cause my tires were worn out, new set of km2s and the wobble is gone
caster was my issue aswell. Caster is something that most shops wont mess with when they do an alignment on sfa vehicles. take ti back tell em to check the specs on it.
when i got it aligned it was at 3.5 degrees they said that was okay....extended my lower control arms out to 23 Inches my angle meeter says its now at 5.5. hopefully that helped it. ill know tomorrow morning driving to work...thanks guys for all the advice i appreciate it.
Just rotated my tires straight front to back a couple weeks ago, got a shake at 55-60 but now after about 300 miles or so it is starting to go away. Initially i was just gonna put them back but got lazy and it is starting to straighten out.

Would loose shocks cause DW? I have the top bolts as tight as i can get them but the bushings seam to be really loose.....would that cause it?
yes, they can cause trouble also, get some more washers and tighten things up?
Loose shocks will allow the tire to jump up and down real fast causing the DW.
okay so i put a grade 8 washer under the lower bushing washer....the rc shocks are reversed so i hope this holds and it gave me a few more threads to tighten up the bushings...ill let you guys know if it works tomorrow
didnt work....to scotts it shall go lol im tired of trying to figure this out. I called jeep they say the JK's just have this issue and just to put a better steering stabilizer on it and check the tires...

:p If you take turns driving them, your fuel mileage shouldn't be too much different:eek::rolleyes: In all seriousness, My problem with the YJ stemmed from unit bearings. When 1 would begin to get loose, it would go to hell in a handbasket. (Not good since I tended to drive it like a sportstruck.) I would generally get 1-1.5yrs out of a bearing. |
:confused:last time i was at scotts he checked them...all good
no last time i told you your steering wheel was out 360* silly. i will get the majic wand out again
my bad maybe it was the time before that lol the JK seems to never be right

lol that might be 50% of the problem
