When a heim fails, it fails completely. You either lose a link or steering arm completely from the attachment point. If it's a link, your axle shifts and probably wastes a coilover or airshock.

When a JJ fails, it just gets sloppy and horribly loose. but you will still get off the trail and back to camp without wasting a $500 shock. And it's rebuildable with common tools and a large bolt. I carry the guts for one JJ with me and a rebuild tool, and I'm good to go.

That alone should help you make your decision. Everything breaks, it's a matter of damage control when it does happen.
