I've done the broken rig limping onto trailer over fenders PITA...
That is why I'm partial to the deck-over.
Added benefit is no worries about dropping a tire off the edge, or clipping a mailbox because the track width is the same(-ish) as the truck. Higher COG is the price I pay, but I'm quite comfortable with the setup...
But I digress... the lower angle that you can get away with if they're non-removable the better... removable, or pivoting... I'm quite certain that you can come up with something functional that looks worthy of putting "YellowJacket Fab" on the side...
