Explorer 4wd issues
A friend has a 02 explorer and he says the only way he can get it in 4wd is to disconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, turn it off, and then connect the battery. It has a dial on the dash.

Is it vacuum actuated?
But does it actually go into 4wd or does just the dial light up?

Dont know if it is vaccum. I do know there is an electric shift motor on the transfer case. The light comes on and it goes in 4wd. If he doesnt do this it does not go in and the light does not come on. He also said the 4wd dash lights dont come on anymore when you start it.
