Gun question.
I know nothing about guns. I had someone I know that wanted to buy my xj but he never came up with the money. He wants to trade a Savage 223 sniper rifle. It has a scope, tripod and a 5 clip magazine. Shoots m16 rounds. Any idea what something like this is worth and how hard would it be for me to sell it?

Don't know what it'd worth but I wouldn't think it'd be difficult to sell. There's tons of groups on Facebook for just guns. Id say if you have a running and driving jewel it wouldn't be an even trade.

When somebody tries to trade me something I don't want, I always think of it this way: If it was that easy to sell for the amount of money in question, the guy woulda done it himself...
$0.02. Robert

I agree. Here is what is going on. He just put about $2400 I to his daughter's car and its still messed up. He claims he is out of money and needs a vehicle for his daughter. According to him the gun is worth above the price we agreed on. I figured a sniper rifle would be hard to sell. Don't want to go back on something I agreed on but I'm getting tired of this too. You know you could retire your xj.....

Savage may be worth less than 1000.00 I would guess.

What u described is not a sniper its a budget hunting rifle with a bipod...and a .223 is not a real powerful round.....folks do that all the time just cause u put a scope on a rifle it doesn't make it a sniper

He said he was a sniper in the military and it was the same gun he shot.

I'm no gun expert either but you can get a base level .223 Savage with a scope at Wal-Mart for $300-$400. They do make many models so if you got the specific model number of the gun and scope you can easily look it up. They make some higher level guns and scope prices vary greatly. The type of scope is important as you can go from $50 to $1,000 on one.

I would also like more info on this 223. But I can not see a savage on the high end sale for more than a grand. Depending on the scope would have to be a high dollar one at that..

Hmmm. This is a little disappointing but I guess it shouldn't be unexpected with the recent conversations between us

Plus a .223 round doesn't have the umf needed for long range a .223 is basically a 22 on steroids its small and light they make even bad mid game rounds

The US military uses mostly 7.62x51 and most of their actions are builds of the Remington 700. I play golf with a former Marine sniper and he woudl literally be laughing if someone tried to sell or trade him a .223 passed off as a sniper rifle.
Get a pic of the gun and scope. Even in .223 it COULD be worth some cash if it has the proper stocks and glass. Some of the higher end scopes can be big money. If it has some $200 scope on it, then do not even bother looking at it any further. |
