i belive the only way through that area is to have a rig you care very little about. you are going to do some damage for sure. fun to watch people open up there sheetmetal... mike

You can go all over that place with out the can opener effect if you want.

Quite a few folks on this board have been... My last trip to Harlan was last President's Day weekend... (Pretty much the last thing that I did before tearing mine down. My winter wheeling signature pic below is Mason Jar.) I know that Shelton has been there quite a few times...

I know that the trip up to the helicopter pads is pretty uneventful (unless you were to slide off the trail near the top, that would be BAD), but they are talking about a specific obstacle called "Can Opener" that has a pretty unique talent for destroying body panels (or cracking fiberglass tubs in JeepmanJeff's case ). Brody had some pretty significant damage there as well from what I remember hearing...

yeah Can Opener with Brody was a very intresting evening that turned into a very long night I think we left can around 7:00 pm and went straight to Can Opener and Brody dropped right in . First part was uneventfull . last section on the other hand was painful. First it was a rear drive shaft cut in half on a rock ( my fault ..... ) then smoking my M8000 trying to pull that big thing out, Only to break springs and u bolts on the front of Brody's rig. Then we all put our thinking caps on to figure out how to get him back to camp. it is amazing what can be done with a few ratchet straps , duct tape and some bailing wire. I think we rolled back into camp around 3:00am'ish . good thing is , we all made it back !!!

I'll be heading down either Thursday or Friday, not sure yet.

this will be my last IFS run, coming home on sunday, and starting the 3 link axle swap. hope to have it back out before June but we will see.

can opener is always a good time. i got my driver's rear quarter pretty bad last time, then when coming off the rock, i took out the passenger rear corner. made for some great video though. did anyone end up going to this, my buddy frank from down there invited us, but all our jeeps were torn apart at the time.
