4.0? What oil and weight are you using? The 4.0's I have had all liked high rpm's. They practically begged for it! I would trade yours for the other tan one on the lot.

Have you 100% verified that it is rod knock and not something else that could sound very similar?

4.0s seem to last forever in my experience, and you just installed a high volume oil pump in yours, correct?

maybe

Maybe the damage was already done before you changed the oil pump. If it will still run you can use a stethescope at the pan comparing it to other places on the motor. If it's there, why not just pull the crank. Have it honed and polished with .030 larger bearings. OH, I'd pull the pan and inspect it first of course.....

Easy fix, slap some new bearings in and go. Did that to a 258 motor that locked up, new bearings, polished up the crank and sent it on down the road.

I also run the high volume oil pumps and I did loose pressure one one time years ago on the way to work. I shut it down, pulled over, checked the oil, it was good started it back up and it was fine.

I was talking to a coworker at the time his son drag raced, they shut down on a run for the same reason and there was no problem after that. The way he talked it was kind of common, but that was the only time I had it happen in the 21 years that motor has been in the CJ.

I still use the high volume oil pumps and have one in my spare motor.

I think you should do a 4bt swap. You help me get my project out of the garage and we can do yours next.
