linkage question

How necessary is it to run jam/ lock nuts on each end of a linkage?

On the linkage end at the axle there isn't any room to get the wrench in there to tighten or loosen the jam nut, was wondering if it'll be OK with only a jam nut on the frame end of the linkage.

If you don't set those nuts there is enough play to make a lot of noise as well as wear out the fitting in the linkage. I didn't have one tight for awhile and with the amount I drive on the road it was starting to get loose and make some nice noise. THe noise comes from going in reverse and applying the brakes and the going forward you get another chunk.
