1999 4.0 xj engine into a 2001

can a 1999 xj engine with a distributer be converted to a 2001 jeep xj without a distributer? what would you do with the hole for the distributer? can the crank sensor be bolted onto the 1999 engine? what else would be involved? blocks much different? thanks for any info!

Blocks are different where the bosses for the alternator bolts on. The water pumps are different, pointing in a different direction, the air conditioner is located in a different spot. I think the block is the same where the cam position sensor bolts in in place of the distributor. 2000 up are the same. Some say 99 Grands are the same as the rest 2000 up.
