Looking for a Lawyer Refferal

My wife was involved in a car accident recently and we are looking to see what our options are in dealing with the guy who hit her. So if you know of any good, or should I say shady (just kidding), lawyers let me know.

The guy who hit her has no insurance, driving under DUI suspension (i.e. - no license), driving a borrowed car of which the owner has no insurance, and that is just the start of it. Its really the perfect storm of the crap.

My wife received a broken leg, various cuts and bruises, and etc from the accident. I am amazed it was not much worse. All the doctors say she is lucky to have only sustained those injuries.

The car is totalled, an Acura TL Type S. It was a bad ass car. Thankfully we are responsible people and have insurance and that the uninsured motorist policy is there to cover the expenses.

So let us know.

good luck...i had a similar situation 6 years ago when i got hit on my motorcycle by a drunk driver on her 4th suspention and she left the scene. luckily a witness chased her down and got car info and she was caught an hour later. turned out she was driving her moms car who did have insurance so i got luckier there but it wasnt enough to cover all the expenses. my advise is only from what i learned and that is make sure you are happy with the limits of YOUR uder and uninsured coverage to cover yourself and let your insurance company fight the rest. i upped mine after my situation. it sucks that you have to look out for yourself but nobody else will and i have proof of that.

hope your wife will be ok

Yeah. I agree. That is where we are at right now. We got the vehicle taken care of and now moving on to the next phase of the process.

We are working to up our coverage as well. We figured if she had any of the kids or friends in the car we would have far exceeded those dollars. I don't think the under insured kicks in in this situation.

We have never gone through this and you never think you will but given the state of the economy I bet more and more people are driving without it. I hope no one on this forum is driving without it.

If you are driving without auto insurance you should really consider your situation. If you have an accident with injuries just think where you will be afterwards. How will you pay the medical bills? How will you be able to stay off work long enough without pay and maintain status quo? Do you realize that when you do get insurance your rates will be higher because they see a large lapse in coverage? Do you know the state can put a hold on your drivers license so that when it comes time to renew your license you won't be able to (trust me my wife is a cop i know)? etc / etc

That's a really crappy situation. As mentioned above your insurance company should be suing the person at fault in an attempt to cover the costs so make sure you keep in contact with your agent. However I don't think they will be doing anything under personal injury, so the only thing you would get out of it would be the deductible.

Unfortunately the potential to get any money from the guy who caused the accident really depends on if he has any to begin with, and there is a good chance somebody like that doesn't have anything.

I would think that if you have uninsured motorist coverage, then your insurance should cover all your bills, and you can let THEIR lawyers go after the deadbeat...

But then, I always expect people and companies to do what they promise to do.

that is true but only up to your coverage limit then your back in the same boat. that why i said to check and see if your happy with your own coverage because i can tell you 100k aint what it used to be by the time your totalled vehicle is takin out of it. 18k came out of mine for the bike right off the top so then you got hospital, time off and oh yeah a lawyer because i guess i dont have the right letters behind my name for them to answer the phone. but if you spill hot coffee in your lap because you dont know how to use a cup holder thats a different story. who says stupid doesnt pay

Brown, Lippert, & Laite. I had David Laite for the car accident that caused my back surgery and injured my kids. He is a good guy and will take care of you.

They are one of the larger firms in Cincy.

Thanks guys. We will check these guys out. We have never been through this before and don't even know where to start. So at least I got some good suggestions for a start.

I agree the uninsured policy gets ate up pretty quick these days. What I think sucks is my wife did nothing to cause the wreck, yet this guy just simply walks away. The real kicker at least with our policy and most is that your collision payout is minus your deductible. It makes no sense to us but they say that is how it works.
