Toyota 2.7L
Looking for a small truck. What's the census on a toyota 2.7L 4cyl with 220,000 miles. I figure timing belt is due, but what kind of milage can one expect from this engine?
No telling what the original owner did, but of course he lied and said he did oil changes every 3000 miles, body and interior are in excellent shape. What about the auto tranny? Any concerns? I really don't know much about toyotas. |

Body will probably rust off before the thing stops running... just what I've heard from others...
What year? Could be just getting up to speed, or ready to drop dead... need more info... My brother has a 22R with 300,000 or so... has had it for 21 years. He could change a clutch and timing chain with his eyes closed, and AutoZone hates that they sold him "lifetime" anything. Best of luck.

The 22re is legendary. I did have to put a 5 speed in my truck though because it would jump out of 3rd gear and it cost the same to fix it as to get a remanufactured tranny. Watch for frame and front suspension rust. Son with lead foot is driving it now and getting almost 30mpg every tank.
The older solid front axle model is the cat's ass. I think 1985 was the last year.

I've heard about the venerable 22R. I didn't think the 2.7L was the same engine. It's a 2002 with SR5 package.

2002 SR5... hmmm, that means 4x4 also right... (you're just prepping your next trail rig aren't you? )
I like the sound of it. Take a look, take some pics, and post up... we'll tell you what we think. Oh, and sorry for the confusion about the older Toy engine. :o

Owned 1 once
2.7 ran like a raped ape compared to the 22RE Mine wasn't a auto, sorry It liked fuel just like the 22re and that was to the tune of about 20 miles to a gallon sorry wilson, can't seem to squeeze mpg as to what you are getting

Lots of people swap 2.7's in place of 22re nowadays.
Just dont run it on its side. Had one come into Toyota when I worked there that self destructed after it ran on its side for 15 minutes. |

mileage that high is most probably low temp highway miles, and is most probably just fine... drop a can of restore in it, prolly good for another 200k.
