I was referring to the Dana 300
on the jeep Question...

chevy 4.3
auto or standard tranny
What tranny will bolt to the 4.3 and the 300?
Without a adapter.

so now the Klune is gone??

would've been really hard to answer with the Klune, just because it could have had several inputs in it... but might be easier than finding something to fit between 4.3 and 300... it just depends on what the Klune input is.

Here's some info from www.novak-adapt.com :

"Instead of having a transmission mainshaft-mounted input gear like previous Dana's, the 300's input gear rides on its own, bearing mounted input shaft. This shaft (in factory dress) always has 23 female splines.

The front input flange for Jeep versions is round and uses six 3/8" mounting bolts through to the transmission flange. The front and rear output yoke is a 1310. The output shafts are 26 splines for both front and rear outputs.

The Jeep 300 is found behind these factory transmissions:

SR4, 1980-1981 CJ
T4, 1982-1986 CJ
T5, 1982-1986 CJ
T176, 1980-1986 CJ
TF999, 1985-1986

Adaptation to better transmissions is often less costly than rebuilding the weaker Jeep gearboxes and provides serious performance and strength upgrades. "

I know that the later AW4 auto has a 23 spline output, and should bolt up (see the Pete and Sean Show.)

I don't know that any of these will readily bolt to the 4.3.

Now, all that aside... If you're opposed to upgrading the output shapts in the 300, and getting $$$ adapters for it... I think that you might be better off selling the 300 and sticking with an all Chevy 4.3/SM465/NP205 or 4.3/TH400/NP205.

That's just my opinion.

One extremely rare, outside possibility is that you have a 1980 IH 300 with the Texas bolt pattern... I will gladly buy it if you do.

Judging by the Klune comment, I'm guessing that isn't the case.

I have an input for the klune that
fits the 205
also have a input that fits the 300
the 300's I have are the round 6 bolt pattern.
thought I read somewhere that a tranny out of a chevy would fit
the 300 bolt pattern, guess not
thought a 265 tranny or something like that
probablly not though..

Are you talking about Klune outputs that match the Dana300 (23 spline) or the NP205 (32 spine, 31 spline, 27 spline, or 10 spline)...

Klune goes between trans and tcase, right????

Yes, with that 1980 IH very rare exception, a Dana300 will have a round 6 bolt pattern... the problem will not necessarily be getting something to bolt to it... it will be mating to the 23 spline input that it has.

You could buy a 32 spline input for the 300 and put it behind a TH400 auto fairly easily I presume... because they would both be 32 spline ...but that kind of goes against your "no adapters" rule.

I don't know of a 265... there's a "Muncie" SM465 which I mentioned in the last post...??

Will try this one last time...
Was looking for a tranny
that would bolt from a GM 4.3 to
a Dana 300 with out an adapter...

I thought I read somewhere that there was such a tranny..

But all the info i am getting now is not the case.

I will need a adapter to go from the GM motor to the 300.
This is what I am reading correct?

I run the 2.5 chevy engine ( which came factory in my cj ) I can use a T-5,
T-4, SR-4 or T-176 ,T-177 . The 4.3 chevy engine will use the same bell housing. These all bolt to the model 300 transfer case.

Only one that you missed was the TorqueFlight 999... (though, again, not sure that fits the 4.3)

I just didn't know if any of them would bolt to the 4.3...

Thanks Shawn.

It was on Novak's list of what a Dana300 comes behind.... (in stock trim)

I thought that Tony was running a TF-999 at one point? Paging ItBrokeAgain... you got your ears on??

I know nothing about them... there might be 2wd/4wd specific versions.

I have a TF999 to a NP231 but wonder how a 4.3 would fit up to it!

I will send you a picture of the 2wd trans and see if we can figure it out.
The one I have is for a GM engine (2.5).

Rob, You may be thinking of a Chevy 3.4 instead of a 4.3(fooling around with those toyota's will mess with your brain). With that engine you can run a 904 out of a early Cherokee with a 2.5 and a Dana 300 will bolt up. I'd love to find an auto that would connect the 2 without adapeters. It would save about $500 on builds.

I just heard of the 904 as well... I was going to pass on that lead, but I'm half a step behind as usual.
