Another xj noob
Im Greg, I got a 88 XJ off a guy from work for $400 back in the fall. Its a little ugly (clearcoat is about half gone) but the motor was rebuilt about 5 years ago so it runs pretty good. Last weekend I was able to fix the loose bolts on the tilt steering wheel and get some front tow hooks mounted. Just need a few more things and I'll be ready to hit some trails. I'll try to get some pics up in a few days.

Thanks everyone. Coppertop, I was hoping to head to big rock with you guys this weekend if you went but I don't think I'll be ready to go by then. Still need a few more things done.

Where ya at?
How did you mount front tow hooks on it? (safety is key on these unibodies) I have a rear hitch receiver (1" - free) if you need a rear tow point. Post up pics. |

I live in Fairfield but I keep the jeep at my parents house in West Chester, I live in a condo and the old ladies complain about everything so I leave it up there. I bought the Rugged Ridge towhook kit and put it on Saturday. Not too bad of an install except my bumper and mount was a little bit bent so I had to straighten that stuff up to get them mounted right. I definatly need a rear tow point. Its got the class 1 hitch mount on the back of it (I think its the 1" ?) but I didn't think that was good enough. I thought I needed the 2"? I know I can't pull from receiver but I didn't know about looping to maint bar of the hitch its self that's behind the bumper. There were a few 2" hitches down at pull and pay the other day but I couldn't break the bolts loose with just my ratchet and I didn't have a breaker bar or pipe with me. I'll try to get some pics up after tonight.

The 2" receiver is better than the 1", I am just cleaning stuff up in the old yard.
If you want to come see the tire on the rim & maybe some more parts I dont want anymore I'll be in Middletown tonight about 6:00. 513-200-3004. |
