upgrading tj trac bar
ive posted on this subject awhile back and now its back to the building steps. im looking at installing the clayton adjustable trac bar w drop bracket. frame side. but my question is about the drop pitman arm and axle side drop bracket that came with the lift.
i am running a 4in SA suspension which included a DPA and axles side drop bracket for the trac bar. so with installing the clayton kit, is the DPA needed and can i cut off the bracket on the axle and use the factory trac bar location. i was looking throught the pictures of the one clayton has installed and it appears that they have the DPA but are using the factoring mounting hole on the axle side.

You need the DPA to make your drag link angle match your track bar. But why are you cutting brackets off? Why not just add and adjustable track bar and call it even? With a SA kit, its not a huge deal. Should still flex pretty good

the only bracket that would be cut off is the track bar re location bracket on the axle side that came with the lift originally. i would hav eto cut it off because i welded it on due to gettig death wobble from the bracket coming loose. so with the DPA and the new adjustable trac bar i dont think i need the axle side drop bracket. correct?

I am using a clayton Track bar with the Clayton Drop Bracket on the frame side. I have a 4" Drop pitman arm on right now and I am going to try a 3" Xj pitman arm to get the angles correct. If you are using the Clayton drop Bracket with the track bar you are going to need a drop pitman arm. If you are using a clayton Track bar with the factory track bar bracket you probably will need a factory Pitman arm. The angle of the track bar needs to be as close to parallel to the angle of the drag link. Measeured through the mounting points. I would not use the axle drop bracket you are using. Clayton is also very helpful with tech questions about there products. I just sent them some pictures of my setup yesterday with some questions they were great help.

Looks like the angles would improve with the axle bracket in the factory spot

X2.... The purpose of an adjustable track bar is so you can use factory mounting holes on a lifted jeep. I would say that's where your wobble came from since your track bar and drag link aren't parallel anymore. Take that ***** off and use the factory hole with the new track bar and DPA, 4"

thanks, i have the DPA for a 4in lift already installed, so ill be getting the track bar kit from clayton before i come home next. i will be installing all this at the same time i put my durango box in the tj.
right now i have a ton of play in the wheel and the jeep likes to float along with a little bit of death wobble still. so hopefully both these and a fresh alignment will do the trick.

Sounds like you got some bad ball joints somewhere down the line. I'd do the track bar and check all your joints before switching boxes. Bad joints will amplify death wobble too. Along with your bars not aligned

The Clayton products I have are very nice. I don't know if I would have gone with that track bar again. The Drop bracket on the frame side contacts the tie rod and the Trackbar contacts the the diff cover at Full bump. That is with 4" springs about 4" up travel. The Clayton track bar with out the drop bracket might have a little better clearance. I think the Currie one would be better for 4" lift it is offset to the front to clear the cover .

death wobble use to come all the time since i installed the lift. but i also used the axle side drop bracket for the tack bar. i had someone wiggle the wheel and thats where the play came from, so i got the welder out and welded that solid, and the death wobble went away. it comes back once in every blue moon but is barely noticeable. so i figured it was the frame side of the track bar that was wore out. so its times to upgrade to a HD track bar anyways. hopefully the steering will be a ton better with a solid track bar and the new box.
