Gas Tank Leak

my gas tank has a small hole in the bottom here is a link so you can see what it looks like

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...127816_0_86880

I am thinking I would like to shrink the tank in half if I could remove the bottom half it would tuck up above my frame
I don't know if I can make the same fuel pump work or the fuel gage

Thought, Comments, Price to do the job if I bring you the tank or somewhere I could check into getting that done

Some of the rangers had factory rear tanks that are 13 gallon, find one.

They are basically a BII tank half as tall. Get on car-parts.com and find a junkyard near you with one. 83-88 had them optional

if I can't get this to work I will be going to U-Pull-N-Pay to look for that ranger tank

well I got the tank out cut it in half cut me a piece of steel to replace the bottom welded it on all was going good then I tested it to see if it would leak and sure enough it did I can't seem to get a good solid weld I have I think 4 or 5 spots that are leaking and I just can't seem to get them to stop

well any tips ????
