Rear Dana 60 Yoke Guard

Since installing the 1979 dana 60 rear axle in my Jeep XJ last year ,I have wanted to install a guard to protect the yoke.

Heres what I came up with after several hours of trial and error. With the existing hoop and diff cover as a good anchor point.

The material used was laying around in the garage. The side pieces are 1 3/4 dom .120 wall tube ,the front piece 1 3/8 dom 3/16 wall tube, and the top reinforcement 1 1/2 3/16 wall box tube.

The guard welded in place before paint.

Ready for Harlan.

No the u-bolt was not wide enough.Plus ,I was'nt crazy about welding it to the axle housing around the input shaft bearing area.Far as bending into the yoke,I hope it's strong enough..

Harlan will be a good test.

I hit it a few times in Harlan. This was the only time I managed a pic on middle rock garden,it stopped me and I got out to see what it was.
