tire sidewall repairs
Anyone know a place around Cincy that can fix a hole in the sidewall of a tire? I got a pin head size hole in a tire looking to get it repaired.

Most shops won't repair a sidewall due to saftey but......some will, mainly independent shops. Options.....
Tube it, cheap but I personally wouldn't run on it everyday. Good for a spare in my eyes only or for a trail rig. Try and pull thru patch plug....may/may not work. Find a shop that vulcanizes sidewalls. Can be Pricey but usually works well, again I still wouldn't trust itfor a DD. I repair/sell tires for a living and have tried sidewall repairs for many fellow off roaders and most hold for awhile but usually fail over due time. If it's a tire your going to depend on every day I'd replace it and be done with it. Trail rig, I'd try the repair or use it for a spare. If it fails your not running 70 mph on the express way risking yours and everyone's life. Some will say go for it no mater but I wouldn't on a DD. I see them fail everyday from sidewall flex and heat buildup. Usually when a tire runs low on air the sidewall heats up and the rubber gets soft/fails damaging the tire and or the sidewall making it unrepairable anyway. Good Luck

Pull through patch plug is what i have always had luck with on a sidewall.
as the above said, i would not DD a patched sidewall tire, must more prone to failing than a typical tread patch. use it as a spare if it is on a driver.

I have had 2 sidewalls repaired at Bob Sumerel tire in Dayton Ohio. They are used for offroad only but they are still holding air just fine. If you have a bias ply tire it will be easily fixable. One of my tires was a radial, they was able to fix it but it looks like ****. Price is reasonable also, hell of a lot cheaper than a new tire. Here is the address.
Bob Sumerel Tire 7711 Center Point 70 Blvd. Dayton, OH 45424 Phone: (937) 235-0062 Fax: (937) 235-0064 |

For those I've asked about this topic, I found the thread. Will call tomorrow to ask. I'll probably call the Milford one..though now I wonder if Dayton is closer to me. hmm

I had a nearly new IROC with a sidewall cut repaired in Milford at Best One, and it looks NEW! No problems, it is a bias tire, not sure if that makes a difference. They do the sidewall repair at the retread/recap shop.
I have had no problems, saved a $300 tire! |

I had a side wall patched on my Camry at Detroit tire in Xenia, its not far from Dayton. They would be closer than Center Point 70 if that is what I'm thinking is almost to New Carlisle.

Didn't think to take any actually. I dealt with Ryan Bridley, Service/Fleet Manager, at 248-3900. Wish I'd have had time to do the tour of the repair facility..that'd been interesting.

Time to dig up an old thread. Cut a side wall and took it to best one. They didn't really want anything to do with it but said they would try. We will see.

Good luck. They told me the same thing on a tire I had. I told them it was an offroad only tire and if they could not fix, atleast they tried. They did not touch the tire.

Got any contact info for Puckett? Slit one of the tractor tires on the yota. Tried patching it and didn't hold up.
