Blazer 2.0

not 100% happy with my K5, it works well, but as always things can be improved upon.

as it sat last trip out for the Core Tour as haspin

Plan is to 3 link the front with 14" coilovers, redo part of the cage and add more to extend it all the way forward over the doghouse.

cleaned the axle up and too off all brackets. while it was out and down it got some maintenance like new u joints, and ordered new rubber lines for the brakes as the rest of the lines will be replaced anyway. in its new location, about 8" forward from stock putting me at around a 115" wheelbase.

Frame is all cleaned up and will be plated for strength from core support back to the body mount

main reason for plating, frame is kinked on both side, drivers side being worse than passenger at about the firewall. and the entire drivers framrail is twisted slightly as well which is hard to capture in pics.

plate the frame frame rails body mount to body mount today. i know its not the more prone to bending, but being as mine was already bent and my upper link will mount in that area along with the panhard the reinforcement was a good idea to keep it straighter.

Thanks. i know these frames are not the strongest. I plan on lots of cage bracing up front. Shock hoops will be tied into the cage, and panhard mount will be tied into the shock hoop. i am trying to build it to not fail, but anything can happen. Pan hard is going right where the steering box was, and it is braced from the backside already from where the steering box was, as those were common to rip off even

steering will be full hydro. once i get the steering mount and truss built, bump stops will be added. just rubber bumps, no need for hydraulic bumps on just a trail rig like this. already have the steering stuff, sans lines.

trying to bust but and get this done as fast (but right) as possible. hoping to start on steering truss next weekend but due to other plans won't have much time to work on it. Hoping to have it done by memorial day. after steering, biggest hurdle will be to do the cage.

working on steering. got the cylinder mounted and a plan worked out for the orbital. Not the route i intended on going, but it was the most logical.

rough position of where it goes.

started laying tube out.

Originally i wanted to mount my orbital about where the factory steering box went. But my shock hoops and stocks are right in the way of doing so. 2nd option was to mount it to the fire wall, but simply would not work with the stock column. so we are on plan C, got rid of the stock column all together and mounting orbital and all inside. Got the mount figured out i hope, still keeping most of the stock dash.

orbital mount. Practice for my TIG welding on a pretty non structural part so it does not have to be perfect. after this though, i would feel fine welding most other things with the TIG.

didn't grab any brake line, and still waiting on steering parts so started to redo the cage today.

Got my front axle brackets fully welded and painted along with my links. mounted up my orbital and steering column. and something completely unnecessary i mounted my light bar to see how it would look on some adjustable mounts i machined

mounts i made from some 6061 plate.
