Hey Sarge are you gonna use the Dakota springs? My Durango has begin to sag a little.....Just curious what you plan on doing with them.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason , I'm gonna use the dakotas in the front of the Jeep , Sorry ( you would not have wanted them anyway ...... they are really flat and flexy

quick update :

Haven't had a lot of time to work on Jeep but did get the rear all in and the front is laying on the garage floor under the jeep . I'm gonna have to outboard the front springs and switch gear boxes with the dakotas up front , but it should put my wheel base around 102" ..... low and wide :)

Well, the dark clowd that follows me around has struck again , I have been showing the rig a little love with some nice new parts , such as a fuel cell, PVC inserts, wayback kit and in return I get one more blown motor. This make number 3 for this year !!!!!!:mad: I'm trying really hard not to strike a match to this thing.....

I have been getting her ready for the Hang over run over the last few days and today she let me down !!!!

Earlier this fall the little 258 I built lost a piston and self destructed so I started searching for a replacement . I found a 4.0 out of a 95 XJ for free that was supposed to have been a good motor. I put it in and fired it up and soemthing was in #6 hole , it sounded bad and I figured the motor was shot. I was going to just sell it as is and forget about it but right before selling it I started it up and held it to the floor. I had to make sure it was popped
Well turns out it quit making noise and just had a miss , which turned out to be the # 6 spark plug ( it was smashed form whatever was in the hole) . put a plug in it and it ran great...... till today , # 6 punched out both sides of the block soooooooo , my free motor just cost me some coin ........ I would say what ever was in the hole was pressed into the top of the piston and it finally let go causing the con-rod to get slap happy !!!

Found another 258 a little bit ago and I'm going to start over !!!!!! So have fun on the New Years Run , I'll be home wrenching .

Yeah, or at least a 4.3. I did an 88 YJ swap using a 4.3 and a turbo 350. That kept the transfer case in the same spot. Novak has the adapter. I hated that 258 junk.

sarge 12-21-2011 09:42 PM

going to look at an 5.3 4l60e combo in the morning , back up plan is a 350 TBI , th350 and a 241C combo . I got the motor about 15 minutes from pulling , all stripped to a short block and ready for the picker. Good thing is I'm getting really good at swapping YJ motors .....

But I really want to stay with a manual and with my drivers drop I'm limited on what I can do. I need to find an early 90's Silverado 4x4 with a stick .....

race10 12-22-2011 09:47 AM

I've got a 465/205 combo set up behind a ls1 so it has the right clutch and fly wheel for a 5.3. Pm me if you want to got that route and I'll make you a good deal on it.

94Dodge Truggy 12-22-2011 11:29 AM

5.3 all aluminum with a manual 400 is the best setup going currently for your application. Nice power to weight!

sarge 12-24-2011 03:38 PM

Well I passed on the 5.3 for now , I picked up another 4.0 for a couple hundred bucks , it's in and runs great just have a few things to button up and it will be 100% again........ hopefully fourth times a charm ...

KillerKoatings 12-24-2011 05:10 PM

So how much was the 5.3 and what are the details on it? I would love to put one in my jk

sarge 12-24-2011 11:39 PM

Didn't even get to the price part of the 5.3 , it's a buddies truck that he bought off co-part and it looks like a beer can thats been run through a can crusher , the front of the motor took a good hit and needs some attention, it may be toast but we are going to have to use the blue wrench to even get it out of the truck. We prob. will not mess with it till spring , if it's good and your still interested I let you know .

sarge 01-30-2012 02:43 PM

Just an update, the 5.3 was broke bad !!!!

bringing it the top so I can be found easy since she if forsale . :beers:
