Project Low and Lean Rustbucket ( LLR )

Ok , not going to be a lot of info in this thread but figured it would be a good place to keep track of photos and ......

I got a 94 YJ in trade for labor on another rig. It's a stocker with a 4.0 , stick , and it has some rust issues to say the least.

My plan is no lift , 33" tires , high line front fenders and alot of cutting and trimming, boat sides , flat belly with motor and gas tank protection and full cage. Will be a sunday woods beater and all around mall crawler....

On with the photo's

speed holes right?

Houston We Have a PROBLEM

And the cutting begins :

more to come !!!!!

Back to the rust and wieght reduction program, Been slow moving because of other projects and work , but I did get a chance to get the passenger side boat side cut out .... I can't wait to get it filled in and then plated !!!!

I have to tell on my self ....
I went out the other day and started cutting with my plasma cutter and about three minutes in to it my plasma lost arc.... had good ground and air was coming out .... but no cut

I turned it off and spent the last few days wondering how much it was going to cost to fix it .... Then yesterday I got off work and was getting ready to take my sons car to get inspected when I noticed the front tire was low. I grab my air hose and start putting air in the tire and notice that I had very low PSI in the hose........

I don't know about all of you , but I NEVER turn my compressor off ........ well someone did . I goning to blame it on the wife

I still didn't put it together with the plasma cutter .... Later on last night I get home and start woeking on the Jeep when a buddy stops by for a beer. I start to tell him about the plasma cutter when ...... the light bulb came on .... OH SH*T !!!!! no air pressure ..... Sure enough the plasma has to have at least 70 PSI ......

OK enough talking, plasma still works I'm happy and the Jeep is lighter because of it.

the gears are turning now , I was really going to keep this one mild but the more I do to it the more I keep thinking about putting the tons under it with the 39.5's , then throwing either the Jeep axles or a set of half ton axles under the Jimmy with my 35's and sell it .

Decisions , decisions ....... the wife is going to kill me. !!!!

Booo. The rust bucket is fine, but don't ditch the Jimmy. IT keeps you warm and dry when wheeling and you really could drive it any time. Not so much for the other....

OK I've decided that the Jimmy is staying put for now , may swap axles into the Jeep if it holds up motor wise .

Got a few things done over the week end , not as much as I would have liked but with kids sports ...... I haven't had a lot of free time .

Frame fix .... check :

Tube fenders bent and tacked and both boat sides tacked up :

Started on the cage , as you can see , I'm going for the low look.

Still have to finish tube work , RR front pass. leaf spring , exhaust need some attention. and right now the gas tank is un hooked and sitting in the back. I'm either going to get a cell and sink it into the floor or sink the stock tank into the floor ..... decisions decisions . Should be ready for paint by the week end .

got a little bit done last night , in between visits from a dozen buddies wanting to see how the progress is going.

Tube fenders welded up :

cage coming along :

Boat sides all welded up and solid as can be ,rear cross member/bumper finished , I still have to fill in a few areas of the floor , remove Family bars or modify them , dovetail , and skid plate. Scored a CJ tail gate that will replace the half rusted YJ gate.

Talked it over with the wife and I'm going to go ahead and start the 60 swap . An open rig is like a corvette , once you have one you either always have one or you always want another one....... I have totally lost interest in the Jimmy..... I know amazing ... me lossing interest in a rig

Still going to stay as low as I possible can with the 39.5 Iroks .

Sprung over on stock leafs ??? maybe !!!

XJ rears / Dakota rears for a stretch ?????

And if I didn't say this before , I'm going with the Military look ( the SARGE ) theme . OD Green body , ammo cans ........

dovetail complete minus final body work.

Crappy pic but it was late and I really didn't feel like doing anything but clean up and go in for the night....

I also took the top section ( pad ) off the dash . going to make a filler panel with defrost vents that is part of the spreader bar on the "A" pillar. I just can't stand how the dashes stick up higher than the tub.

Got a fair amount of work done last evening , nobody bothered me all night , ended up working till around 3:00am .... cough cough ... made work rough this morning but hell , I miss the all nighters wrenching in the garage.

Any how , got the exhaust ran , had to weld up the header ( typical 4.0 crack) I ran 2.5 back to a Thrush muffler and turn down , all tucked up nice and close to the floor pan.
I removed what was left of the factory skid pan I'm suprised it was even still under it ....

I had first said I was going to Highline the front and I changed my mind and went with tube fenders.... well in typical Sarge fashion I changed my mind last night about midnight Highline it is . I also did some more tube work on the cage. I will not be able to get much more done for several days with my schedule , so this is it till next week.
