Cases top shift or forward shift?

What is the difference in top shift and forward shift?

No need for one now but top shift the shifter is actually on top of the transfer case forward shift the shift forks go into the transmission and the shifter bolts to the top of the trans

Motor is getting scrapped this week. The w-56 and the automatic I still have. The w-56 has a top shift not sure about the automatic

The auto t-case is chain driven and they arnt worth there weight n scrap.....
If your junkin this weekend i'd throw that t-case on the pile but keep the trany. The trans "body" is the same as a jeep AW4 and several others.......Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi Toyota, and you can even find a 60* Chevy bellhousing off of some Isuzu V6 trucks that will fit that trans body.

Then AW4 tail housing and your ready for a bolt on D300 or atlas without an adapter.

The actual trans is an Asian design and since jeep sucks they couldn't build an auto to hold up, they had there co. (Warner) build a bell housing and tail housing to fit the Asian trans a bought a few million......thats how jeeps keep goin...Asian trans! A(asian)W(warner)4(speed)
